The Swiss defender has been at Basle  since 2015, after joining from Swiss second tier side Winterthur, and now plays a key role in their defence.

Akanji has played every minute of Basle's league games aside from one as well as all six of their Champions League group games, including the 1-0 victory over Manchester United in November.

He is now set to join Dortmund, who are looking to solidify their defence and recover their season, sitting 16 points adrift of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich.

The Basle defender has featured in all but one game for the Swiss side and played the full 90 minutes in their Champions League win over Manchester United in November
