LAURIE WHITWELL FOR THE DAILY MAIL: Stoke are ready to challenge Southampton in pursuit of a January move for Daniel Sturridge.
Mark Hughes wants to add a striker to his squad when the winter window opens and has ambitious plans to recruit the England international on loan.
Hughes also holds a strong interest in Sturridge's Liverpool team-mate Danny Ings and hopes Stoke will be able to use geography as leverage against rival clubs to secure one or the other. Newcastle, West Ham and West Bromwich Albion, are all tracking Ings.
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho wants to sign Carlos Soler in next month's window.
According to Spanish outlet Don Balon, Valencia’s young playmaker may replace Henrikh Mkhitaryan in January at Old Trafford.
However, the La Liga side are reluctant to sell their 20-year-old star - who scored at Real Madrid earlier on in the season - and are demanding United meet his £71million release clause.
Barcelona are plotting the departure of five players to fund big-money moves for Philippe Coutinho and Antoine Griezmann.
Javier Mascherano, Arda Turan, Gerard Delofeu, Aleix Vidal and Rafinha are all on the chopping block according to Spanish publication Sport.
In what is being dubbed 'operation exit' the La Liga leaders are looking to free up room on the wage bill and bolster the transfer kitty.
Virgil van Dijk has arrived at Anfield as he prepares to watch his new Liverpool team-mates take on Leicester on Saturday.
The Dutchman is due to become a part of Jurgen Klopp's squad on January 1, when his world record £75million move from Southampton will be completed, but Van Dijk will have just a watching brief on Saturday.
Van Dijk, dressed in all black, looked delighted as he walked around the Anfield pitch and soaked up the atmosphere at his new home ground while the few fans already inside the stadium tried to get a photo of their new signing.
Everton had a £25million offer accepted for striker Cenk Tosun by Besiktas earlier this week.
According to Sky Sports, Everton officials were in Turkey on Friday night finalising all the paperwork.
The deal is expected to be completed early next week, which would see Tosun become the most expensive Turkish international to leave the Super Lig.
Stoke City are exploring a deal to take Danny Ings on loan in January, with Mark Hughes wanting to add two or three players to his squad in the winter window.
Hughes is ready to rival West Bromwich Albion, Newcastle and West Ham in pursuit of the Liverpool striker.
Ings may be made available by Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp looks to streamline his squad and allow the 25-year-old game-time elsewhere.
SIMON JONES: Celtic have made a £500,000 bid for Dundee defender Jack Hendry.
The stylish 22-year-old centre-back has been watched by a number of clubs this season including Southampton, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace.
Hendry started his career at Partick Thistle but moved to Wigan Athletic in 2015 where he also had spells on loan with Shrewsbury Town and Milton Keynes Dons.
Hendry joined Dundee in July and has 18 months left on contract.
SIMON JONES: Middlesbrough and Sunderland are in discussions over a move for Ghana international Edwin Gyasi.
The winger, who plays for Aelsunds in Norway, has also drawn attention from Premier League West Bromwich Albion and can leave for an initial £600,000 with add-ons.
Born and raised in Holland to Ghanaian parents, Gyasi made his international debut for Ghana in a World Cup qualifier against Congo last September and scored his first international goal in a 1-1 draw with Egypt in November.
The 26-year-old is 6ft 1ins tall, can play as a secondary striker also and scored six goals this year for Aelsunds.
Boro and Sunderland are keen to strengthen their attack as they try to kickstart their respective seasons.
Sunderland have also asked about Liverpool's Ben Woodburn on loan.
Eden Hazard turned down the offer of a new deal at Chelsea in order to increase his chances of moving to Real Madrid, claims his father.
The Belgian forward claimed last month that 'everyone knows the admiration I have for Real Madrid', increasing speculation he could leave Stamford Bridge.
Now Thierry Hazard, Eden's father, has fanned the flames, although he also admitted there is no concrete bid yet.
BRIAN LEE: Watford manager Marco Silva does not expect to sell any players in January and will be aiming to improve the squad.
Midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure has been linked with a big-money move away from Vicarage Road when the transfer window opens, though the Hornets are also said to want to offer him a lucrative new deal.
Silva insists the club are aiming to strengthen the playing staff, not offload key men as he prepares for the visit of Premier League strugglers Swansea.
SIMON JONES: Tottenham have expressed interest in Bordeaux winger Malcom but have yet to make a bid.
The Brazilian is also a target for Manchester United in January but his club are reluctant to sell until the summer and want over £40million for the U23 international.
The 20-year-old has had an impressive two years in France since arriving from Corinthians in January 2016 and has scored some spectacular goals this season.
Tottenham may bid if rivals, who also include Bayern Munich, make a move but at the moment are maintaining a watching brief.
Their main target remains Ryan Sessegnon at Fulham though the Craven Cottage club do not wish to lose their 17-year-old at least until the end of the season.
Figures of £25million have been discussed but the Championship side value the teenager at a much higher price.
Sessegnon can play at left-back or left wing but a move for him would not be impacted by any bid for Malcom who can play on either wing or as a secondary striker.
Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho is reportedly already looking for a house in Barcelona amid renewed interest from the club.
The Brazilian was the subject of three rejected bids from the La Liga giants during the summer and remained at Anfield despite submitting a transfer request in efforts to force a move through.
Barca however, are plotting a fresh swoop for the midfielder in the January window and according to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Coutinho has tasked his advisors with finding him a suitable property in the Catalan capital ahead of a potential switch to the Nou Camp.
Arsenal have ear-marked Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha as the man to replace Alexis Sanchez, according to The Daily Star.
Sanchez's contract impasse at the Emirates is still on going and Arsene Wenger has now resigned himself to losing the Chile star with Manchester City his preferred suitors.
The Gunners boss is planning for life without Sanchez and has identified Palace attacker Zaha as an ideal replacement.
Palace boss Roy Hodgson revealed earlier this month he could not guarantee that Zaha would still be at the club after the January window but insisted it would take a huge offer to prise him away.
City and Tottenham are also interested in the Ivory Coast international.
