Pep Guardiola has no doubt Arsenal could challenge his Manchester City side for the title, as the Premier League leaders prepare to host the Gunners on Sunday.

Arsenal finished outside the top four for the first time in 21 years last season and their start to the current campaign was indifferent.

However after losing just one of their last seven games to climb to fifth, the Londoners' season is starting to show potential.

Guardiola is wary of their threat, and said: 'We are in November. They won the FA Cup last season. The prestige of the club, the Emirates Stadium - of course they are a contender. It is nine points. The difference is nothing, believe me.

'People consider we are going to play like the last two months all season. When that has happens I can say, 'OK we have a big chance to be champions' but nobody can assure you that. We have to fight.'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has meanwhile urged his players to seize the opportunity to show they can compete with City.

Wenger's men sit bottom of the big six mini league - matches between the top teams under their current managers - and were humbled 4-0 at Liverpool in August.

'We have an opportunity to show we can do well against a big team away from home,' he said. 'It is one we want to take and I'm sure everyone in our camp will be focused on that.

'They are good, I don't want to take anything away from Manchester City at the moment, they are doing extremely well, they are top of the league and top of the European group stage.

'As well it is a good opportunity for us to show we can compete with them and that is what we want to show.'
