Tottenham have sent out a huge message to their Premier League title rivals by earning an impressive point at the home of Champions League holders Real Madrid, claims Rio Ferdinand.
An own goal from Raphael Varane gave Tottenham a surprise lead at the Bernabeu before Cristiano Ronaldo equalised from the spot. But Zinedine Zidane's men were unable to take advantage of their dominance and the game finished 1-1.
Although Tottenham rode their luck at times, Ferdinand believes the Premier League outfit will gain a massive boost in confidence after proving a match for one of the world's best sides.

He told BT Sport: 'It sends out a message. This will give them huge confidence going into Premier League games, to go to the Bernabeu against a team filled with superstars and to be so composed defensively.
'You have to ride your luck at times but this Spurs team looked comfortable at times and that's testament to [Mauricio] Pochettino.'
Speaking alongside him, Frank Lampard said: 'It was a great game-plan, every player on the pitch worked hard worked in their position. They actually had two fantastic chances in the second half when they could have won the game.'
Rio Ferdinand says the result could act as a spark for their Premier League title challenge
Tottenham are now top of Group H at the halfway stage and are a whole six points clear of third-placed Borussia Dortmund, making qualification to the last 16 more than likely.
But that may not have been the case had it not been for goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who pulled off several fantastic saves to keep the scores level at various points in the match.
One in particular, a point-blank block with his feet from Karim Benzema's header, particularly impressed former Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle.
He said: 'Lloris' save is amazing. This is where they are throwing bodies in the box. He shouldn't be having to make it, but it's a wonder save.'
