Chelsea boosted as Alvaro Morata trains on eve of Roma Champions League test... but Antonio Conte looks like he could do with a break

  • Chelsea face Roma in their third Champions League group game on Wednesday
  • Alvaro Morata trained on Tuesday; N'Golo Kante and Victor Moses were absent
  • Morata has now trained for three days in a row after missing Crystal Palace loss
  • Ethan Ampadu, Jake Clarke-Salter, Kyle Scott and Dujon Sterling were involved

Alvaro Morata is training with Chelsea on the eve of their Champions League clash with Roma in a significant boost to Antonio Conte's shell-shocked side.

Morata, 24, was able to work with his team-mates for a third consecutive day to put himself in contention for Wednesday night's game at Stamford Bridge.

Conte has had his players working hard this week after his mood was soured by their humbling at Selhurst Park in a second consecutive Premier League loss.

Conte's mood has soured this week after he watched his players capitulate at Crystal Palace

They trained on Sunday and have spent the two days since working intensely in preparation for the visit of Eusebio Di Francesco's Roma.

Chelsea remain without N'Golo Kante and Victor Moses was unable to train following his hamstring injury suffered in Saturday's defeat at Crystal Palace. Danny Drinkwater was also absent from Tuesday's session.

Morata's potential return would offer a timely boost following Michy Batshuayi's vapid display up front at Palace.

Chelsea's No 9 has recovered from hamstring trouble enough to join his team-mates at their Cobham base regularly this week.

Captain Gary Cahill has made it clear the Premier League champions are desperate to get back into competitive action as soon as possible to get over the Palace defeat.

'When you have had a bad result and a bad performance, you want to play again as soon as possible, which is midweek for us, to try and put it right,' Cahill said.

'The result is gone and you go in and you work and you work and you go to produce a performance on Wednesday that we know we can produce to get that winning feeling back and then we go from there.

'You saw the real Chelsea last season and it is important we try to emulate that sort of form this season consistently.'

Conte also included youngsters Ethan Ampadu, Jake Clarke-Salter, Kyle Scott and Dujon Sterling in training on Tuesday.
