United face a trip to the Estadio da Luz to take on Portuguese champions Benfica in a Group A match on Wednesday.

Mourinho's side have made a strong start to their Champions League campaign and sit top of the group after two comprehensive victories over Basle and CSKA Moscow.

But after the weekend's performance at Liverpool, which saw Mourinho come under severe scrutiny for his part in the goalless stalemate, he will be eager for a better showing.

The Red Devils had been in formidable goalscoring form prior to the match but offered little going forward, instead putting on a more pragmatic and defensive display.

Even Romelu Lukaku, who is the focal point of their attack, couldn't get on the scoresheet despite doing so with relative ease in most games this season - with seven goals in eight Premier League games.

The result also meant they lost some ground in the early title race with their rivals City now sitting top and two points clear of them.

Mourinho will want to move on from the weekend quickly and will be keen to get back to winning ways and tighten United's grip hold on the group against last-placed Benfica.
