Another ex-United player, Richie Wellens, is currently caretaker manager. Wellens has led Latics to three straight victories since taking the helm, following impressive victories at home to high flyers Peterborough United and away at Portsmouth.
Oldham also won a Checkatrade Trophy tie at Crewe, with Wellens impressing officials and large sections of the club’s support.
Scholes lives in the town and has been spotted at Boundary Park a number of times over the years.
Last season, he was brought in to take a training session at the club. Oldham currently lie in 19th position in League One and a takeover of the club remains ongoing.
Earlier this month, Holland legend Clarence Seedorf was interviewed for the post.
Scholes has been working in television as a pundit since retiring from playing back in 2012
The former England international scored 155 goals in 718 appearances at Old Trafford
