Simon Mignolet is Liverpool's penalty king after vital stop from Jamie Vardy earned the points at Leicester... but how does the Belgian compare to the Premier League's spot-kick savers?
- Simon Mignolet saved a Jamie Vardy penalty as Liverpool beat Leicester 3-2
- The Belgian goalkeeper had conceded the spot-kick but managed to atone
- Mignolet guessed correctly that Vardy would keep the kick down the middle
- He has saved seven of 15 penalties faced in Liverpool colours since 2013
He has many detractors, but Simon Mignolet proved to be Liverpool's saviour at Leicester on Saturday when he saved Jamie Vardy's penalty kick.
Admittedly, the Belgian goalkeeper had conceded the penalty in the first place, clattering the home striker having made contact with the ball.
But Mignolet had clearly done his homework on Vardy's down-the-middle penalty technique, remaining central, standing his ground then dropping low to his right to block it.

In the process, Mignolet denied Leicester an equaliser to make it 3-3 with 20 minutes left in a pulsating contest and Jurgen Klopp was spared yet more searching questions about his side's defensive deficiencies.
Mignolet has come in for fierce criticism on many occasions for his positional wobbles and lack of penalty area command, but his penalty-saving stats are a redeeming feature.
Since joining Liverpool for the 2013-14 season, Mignolet has saved seven of the 15 Premier League penalties he has faced or 46.6 per cent - more in that time than any other keeper.
When you add in the three seasons with Sunderland prior to his move to Anfield, Mignolet has saved 10 of 26 Premier League penalties saved, a success rate of 30.8 per cent.
These saves have come against top quality opponents as well - he saved Diego Costa's late penalty to earn Liverpool a point against Chelsea back in January.

He saved from Arsenal's Theo Walcott on the opening weekend of last season, helping Liverpool to a 4-3 win at the Emirates, and there was also a stop from Sadio Mane, now his team-mates, during Liverpool's game at Southampton in 2016.
Mignolet has also denied Manchester United's Wayne Rooney while a Liverpool player and stopped his erstwhile team-mate Luis Suarez when keeping goal for Sunderland.
It means that Mignolet's penalty saving record certainly compares favourably with those other Premier League stoppers considered masters of this particular art.
His success rate of 30.8 per cent is far higher than both David de Gea at United and Hugo Lloris at Tottenham, who have both saved just two of 17 penalties faced in the Premier League.

Arsenal keeper Petr Cech has stopped just four of 31 penalties faced, while Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois has managed to repel only one of eight he's come up against.
One of the most respected penalty savers - David Seaman of Arsenal and England - had a Premier League record of seven saves from 22 kicks, or a success rate of 32 per cent that just trumps that of Mignolet.
Of all the goalkeepers in the Premier League era who have faced 10 or more penalties, Mignolet's record places him a respectable ninth.
The Russian Dmitri Kharine has the best stats, saving five of the 11 penalties he faced during his time at Chelsea between 1992 and 1999 - or 45.5 per cent.
Manuel Almunia, who played for Arsenal, West Ham on loan and Watford, kept out six of the 14 spot-kicks he faced, while the Newcastle keeper Pavel Srnicek and Norwich's Bryan Gunn both saved 40 per cent or more of the penalties they faced.
But Mignolet is Liverpool's reigning penalty king - and he proved why once again on Saturday.
