Tottenham 3-1 Borussia Dortmund, RESULT Champions League action PLUS Liverpool 2-2 Sevilla, Feyenoord 0-4 Man City and the rest of the action

The Champions League is certainly back with a bang with stunning wins for Tottenham and Feyenoord, although Liverpool are left to reflect on what might have been against Sevilla.

Joe Gomez is sent off for a second bookable offence on a frustrating night for the Reds.

Tottenham's perfect night has a big blemish. Jan Vertonghen has been sent off after a fairly innocuous looking elbow at Mario Gotze while battling for the ball.

It's unknown if it is a straight red - and a resulting three-match ban.

Maribor have equalised at home to Spartak Moscow, while Besiktas have put the game beyond Porto's reach as a lovely passing move is converted by former Liverpool forward Ryan Babel to make it 3-1.

With four minutes remaining, Harry Kane departs for Tottenham as he is replaced by debutant Fernando Llorente.

Moussa Sissoko is also on for Spurs having replaced the other goal scorer Son Heung-min.

I doubt Manchester City will have an easier game this season. Feyenoord have never looked like taking anything from this match as Leroy Sane is denied from scoring a fifth City goal from inside the box, having replaced Fernandinho.

Arkadiusz Milik pulls a goal back for Napoli from the penalty spot as they trail 2-1 at Shakhtar Donetsk, while at Wembley Harry Kane has dragged another chance wide across goal for Spurs.

On comes Coutinho, who is well received by fans who applaud the playmaker onto the pitch as Emre Can departs. There is just under 15 minutes left at Anfield.

Spurs really have been a mixed bag in front of goal this evening. They have struck some brilliant efforts but they have also been so wasteful. Christian Eriksen joins the latter category with an effort over the bar from the edge of the box.

Liverpool have had 22 shots on goal, Sevilla just three.

Yet despite the Reds looking dominant, the Spanish side are level with Joaquin Correa grabbing a surprise equaliser with 18 minutes remaining. Philippe Coutinho is now getting ready to come on for Jurgen Klopp's side.

Tottenham may have a two-goal lead but Borussia Dortmund remain a constant threat and this game isn't beyond them yet. Spurs have a chance to make it so, only for Toby Alderweireld to head over from inside the box.

Time to put the feet up at De Kuip for Manchester City. Pep Guardiola makes the changes as David Silva and Sergio Aguero have been given the rest of the night off, with fresh legs of Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph coming on.

What a night for John Stones. The defender has been faultless at the back and lethal in the other penalty box as he scores his second header of the night following another City short corner that to a Kevin de Bruyne cross and City's killer fourth goal.

Spartak Moscow have opened the scoring at Maribor while Shakhtar Donetsk have doubled their lead over Napoli.

Meanwhile Real Madrid are now 3-0 up against APOEL. Marcelo's cross nodded back across goal by Gareth Baleb efore Sergio Ramos converts with an overhead kick.

And Spurs make the most of their luck. Harry Kane collects a Christian Eriksen pass on the edge of the box before the striker fires a low strike across goal into the bottom corner. It's another precise effort from the England international.

A massive slice of luck for Tottenham as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang collects a back post cross before firing past Hugo Lloris, only to be flagged offside.

It's the first matchnight and already Cristiano Ronaldo is on a hat-trick after the striker tucks home a penalty kick against APOEL to make it 2-0.

It remains a brilliant contest at Wembley, where Spurs blow two excellent chances to double their lead. First Harry Kane fires over from the edge of the box, but Son Heung-min misses the best opportunity as following a counter attack he cuts onto his right foot only to curl over from 18 yards. Will Spurs come to regret those?

What Manchester City will we see in this second half? Pep Guardiola's side totally dominated the first period and are very good value for their lead.

Will they go for the kill and press for more or try and just see out the game from here?

Spurs have defended well but Dortmund have been upping the pressure following a first half where the German side had 67 per cent of the ball and created a number of opportunities. Fancy Spurs will need to see more of the ball to hold onto three points here.

Sadio Mane gets into the box and is fouled by Nicolas Pareja to win a spot-kick. But from 12 yards, Roberto Firmino can only fire against the woodwork.

The turnaround is complete for Liverpool. It's come from a total fluke but you know the saying, 'they all count' folks.

Mohamed Salah's determination is rewarded as he wins the ball 30 yards out before his long range shot cannons off Simon Kjaer and past the stranded keeper.

Spurs having to soak up some pressure at Wembley but if there are any nerves among the hosts they are not showing it.

Already they look a vastly improved outfit from the team that flopped in this stadium in the Champions League a year ago.

Although Christian Pulisic has somehow missed out on sliding in an equaliser at the back post.

Cenk Tosun has scored a sensational 35-yard strike to restore Besiktas's lead in Porto after an equaliser from the hosts. Shakhtar Donestk lead against Napoli.

This is brutal from Manchester City. Brad Jones saves a long distance strike but he can only parry the ball into the path of Gabriel Jesus who steers home a simple finish.

'Kovacic taken off with what looks like quite a serious knee injury. Practically in tears as he hobbles off. Toni Kroos coming on but he's not very prepared, still taping up his shin pads. Madrid comfortable, even with a man down at the moment.'

Liverpool have responded well since falling behind, with Roberto Firmino tapping home after Alberto Moreno had played a brilliant one-two with Jordan Henderson to get into the box before cutting back for the forward to tap home.

The goals are flooding in across Europe. Total non-surprise of the night is seeing Cristiano Ronaldo fire Real Madrid in front against APOEL. Talisca's strike has given Besiktas the lead at Porto.

What a game this is at Wembley. Borussia Dortmund were putting the pressure on but Spurs break away and after Harry Kane charges into the box he smashes home at the near post top corner past Roman Burki - who has been a little suspect so far.

Top response from Borussia Dortmund, as Andriy Yarmolenko curls a superb finish across goal from 20 yards to leave Hugo Lloris helpless as the bail sailed into the top corner. Cue Wembley woe, Wembley curse etc...

Not even 10 minutes gone and Manchester City are ripping Feyenoord apart - Sergio Aguero capping off a free flowing move to silence what was a partisan home crowd before the game.

It's not all good news for the Premier League teams though. Liverpool are a goal down at Anfield after a cross played through the xis yard box is tapped home by Wissam Ben Yedder. Dreadful defending from the hosts with at least two red shirts failing to clear in the build up.

And there is a goal at Wembley too... for Tottenham! It's been a good start from the hosts and they take the lead after Son Heung-min collects a pass before charging into the box and smashing home at the post from an acute angle.

What a start for Manchester City! Following a short corner, the ball is crossed into the box for John Stones to head towards the bottom corner.

But despite a Feyenoord defender being on the line, it somehow squirms between his legs and into the net.

Many eyes are on Anfield for Liverpool's first Champions League game for thee years. There is a typically loud rendition of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' sung by supporters before the players emerge and the dust is wiped off the vinyl for the Champions League theme to be played around the ground.

On Everton win: 'It gave us confidence and the team is fantastic and focused on the Champions League again,' Pochettino told BT Sport. 'It's the best competition in the world and I think it's exciting for everyone.

On Aurier inclusion: 'I think it's important to rotate the squad, I think we have a strong squad and everyone can have the possibility to play. It's important to step by step build his confidence in the team, but he's an experienced player. I'm sure he'll perform in the right way.

On whether it’s a good time to play Dortmund: 'I think when you see the squad of Dortmund, it's fantastic. During the season, they have problems now, but we can have them in the future. It's important to have a strong squad for when some players are not in a good moment.'

Tottenham appear to have been thrown into the Champions League 'group of death' and the numbers back it up.

Based on adding combined UEFA coefficient points, Group H is the strongest led by Real Madrid with Borussia Dortmund Spurs and APOEL following up.

More bad news for the north London side is that according to our friends at bwin, the third strongest team has never gone on to qualify from the 'group of death.'

Following his £23million arrival from Paris Saint-Germain, Serge Aurier is given his Tottenham Hotspur debut by Mauricio Pochettino as he replaces Kieran Trippier at right back.

There are three changes in total with Mousa Dembele and Son Heung-min also coming into the sie at the expense of Moussa Sissoko and the suspended Dele Alli.

Fellow new signings Fernando Llorente and Juan Foyth are on the bench.
