The Belgium national football team are looking for a new mascot - and are relying on their fans to come up with a better design than Romelu Lukaku can manage.

In a genuinely funny launch video for the competition, a group of players, including the Manchester United striker, are tasked with designing the team's new companion.

Unfortunately for them, Lukaku shows he is more skilled with the ball at his feet than with a pen in his hand.

One fellow player asks Lukaku 'are you left or right handed?'; when he replies right, it is cheekily suggested he should try drawing with his left.

Soon, Lukaku's work is done, and he looks very pleased with the design - only for the camera to pan back and reveal an utterly bizarre creature.

The beast is then brought to life - with a round white body, spiky hair, staring eyes a single buck tooth, and flailing arms and legs.

The advert then admits 'We could use some help', and asks fans to send in their designs for the new Belgium mascot.

It is not the first time fans have been asked to send in their ideas for a mascot - Arsenal's green dinosaur, Gunnersaurus, was born this way.

Whatever happens, as much help as Belgium need off the pitch, the players need none on it as they march towards next summer's World Cup.

They will become the first European side to qualify for the 2018 finals in Russia if they avoid defeat away to Greece on Sunday.
