Newcastle forward Aleksandar Mitrovic handed three-match ban after appearing to elbow Manuel Lanzini

Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic will serve a three-match ban after admitting an FA charge of violent conduct.

Mitrovic appeared to catch West Ham's Manuel Lanzini with an elbow during Newcastle's 3-0 win over the Hammers on Saturday in an incident that was not seen by referee Neil Swarbrick or his assistants but was caught on video.

The Serbia international will miss the Premier League games with Swansea, Stoke and Brighton and will be eligible to return for the home clash with Liverpool on October 1.

Saturday's clash with West Ham was Mitrovic's first league appearance of the season for Rafa Benitez's newly-promoted side.

Having being benched for their defeats to Tottenham and Huddersfield, the 22-year-old marked his first league start of the campaign with a goal.

Mitrovic's late effort added to earlier goals from Ciaran Clark and Joselu. But he now faces another month out of club action following his elbow on Lanzini at St James' Park.
