Manchester United are a mix of power play and joy, they can be a real force this season... and find out who makes my team of the weekend

  • It looks as if we are finally seeing the Manchester United of old this season
  • Against Swansea I saw a team who are loving playing alongside each other
  • The last two goals were United at their counter-attacking best

After four long years, it looks as if we are finally seeing the Manchester United of old.

There has been very little joy at Old Trafford in recent times but at Swansea I saw a team who are loving playing alongside each other.

Jose Mourinho said he was happy to 'let the horses run freely' at Swansea. There will be times when he wants to keep them reined in but when he has such firepower in Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba he has to use it.

The last two goals were United at their counter-attacking best, fuelled by the brilliance Mourinho could call upon from his bench.

What an option he has in Anthony Martial to change a game. Full backs will have been run ragged by Rashford for 75 minutes and then have to face the explosive Martial for the final 15!

I can see Marouane Fellaini playing an equally important role. There will be tight games against United's top-six rivals where the Belgian will be called upon to shore things up.

United must not get carried away — making a fast start is no guarantee of success.

But very few teams have the power, the presence and the strength in depth United possess. They can be a real force this season.

Another false dawn, Arsene

As Arsenal were slipping to defeat at Stoke, I could not help but think I was watching a re-run of last season.

They rode their luck against Leicester and were punished by a Stoke side who were far hungrier.

Yes, Arsenal have not always had success at Stoke but it was only three months ago that they beat them 4-1 on the same ground.

The problem is that everything is far too comfortable at Arsenal. Nobody plays as if they are under any pressure.

I cannot understand why players such as Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs are content to remain on the fringes of the first team. They should be trying to force their way in or go and kickstart their careers elsewhere.

After Arsenal's superb victory in the FA Cup final over Chelsea, I hoped this season would be a fresh start. Instead, it appears to have been a false dawn. Arsenal remain beset by the same old problems.

After a limp end to last season, an uninspiring summer and a poor start at Everton, Stoke needed a hero.

As he showed with his superb goal against Arsenal, Jese Rodriguez can be that man. Only three years ago, he was one of Europe's hottest prospects and pushing Gareth Bale for a starting berth at Real Madrid.

His progress was only curbed by a cruciate-ligament injury.

He showed how good he is with his perfect run to fool Nacho Monreal before a cool finish. That goal will help restore the feelgood factor at Stoke... and sell a fair few shirts!

Class act Chalobah

I've been very impressed with how Nathaniel Chalobah has started at Watford. Leaving Chelsea has allowed him to thrive.

He was confident and assured against Liverpool and was a class act in Saturday's win at Bournemouth. I was not alone in thinking Watford would struggle to stay up.

It's early days but the signings of Richarlison and Andre Gray have added quality and power.

I thought Chelsea might miss Chalobah against Tottenham but Tiemoue Bakayoko was composed and powerful in midfield at Wembley.

It was a huge result for Chelsea — who still have the league's best player in Eden Hazard to return from injury!

Liverpool have a proud history of great Scottish players, such as Dalglish and Souness... and they may have another in Andrew Robertson.

James Milner did well at left back last season but Liverpool needed a specialist there. Robertson gave Liverpool balance against Crystal Palace.

He offers another option down the left and his delivery was superb.

If Philippe Coutinho stays, Robertson will let him cut inside and shoot more frequently.

There will be greater tests of his defensive capabilities but he will prove a very astute signing.

West Ham have not had the ideal start but there were two big positives for Slaven Bilic in defeat at Southampton.

First, Declan Rice impressed in midfield. He can play there and at centre back and is a good communicator.

I'm sure Bilic sees a bit of himself in the 18-year-old. Javier Hernandez was another big plus, with two trademark poacher's goals.

West Ham lacked a predator last season and, as our graphic shows, he has scored all his 39 Premier League goals from inside the box.
