Crystal Palace manager Frank de Boer is targeting more transfers after dismal start to Premier League... and could be prepared to offload Andros Townsend to fund his plans

  • Crystal Palace boss Frank de Boer wants to make several additions to his squad
  • Palace have only signed Jairo Riedewald on a permanent basis this summer
  • de Boer is also considering listening to offers for winger Andros Townsend
  • Palace have endured a tough start and are yet to collect a point or score a goal

Crystal Palace manager Frank de Boer is hoping for plenty of transfer activity in the final fortnight of the window after his side's poor start to the season leaves them without a point or a goal in two games.

Palace's 1-0 defeat at Liverpool represented a big improvement on a 3-0 home defeat against Huddersfield the previous weekend, but de Boer would still like more players at the club and could be prepared to listen to offers for Leicester City and Newcastle target Andros Townsend, James Tomkins and Martin Kelly to make space available.

He is also resisting attempts to break the bank for Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho who became a cult hero at Selhurst Park last season under Sam Allardyce. De Boer doesn't believe Sakho's style would suit the footballing philosophy he is trying to introduce at Selhurst Park.

De Boer has only been able to sign one player on a permanent basis so far, defender Jairo Riedewald who was injured for Saturday's game at Anfield, and Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan.

'We are still looking to see if there is real quality to add to our squad. If there is real quality rather than panic buys, we won't hesitate,' said the Dutchman, who was sacked by Inter Milan last season.

'The biggest thing at Liverpool was that we were really concentrated and played as a team. We stuck to what we planned before the game and that is a compliment to the squad.

'I said to them if they play with this kind of intensity and discipline the results will come. To lose 1-0 is very disappointing because we deserve more but I am convinced if we show this every week the results will come.'

Liverpool's winner came from a blunder by holding midfield player Luka Milivojevic who was facing his own goal when a poor touch bounced off Dominic Solanke for Sadio Mane to score.

'I didn't think it was lack of concentration but he was out of control and suddenly the ball is at the feet of Mane,' he said.

'We dealt so well with the minutes before so it's even harder to take. Liverpool had to play around us before then. But it is about the points and we are empty handed.'

De Boer's conversations with the Palace hierarchy will be interesting this week with the club reluctant to spend as heavily as they've done in the last three windows to stay up under Tony Pulis and Sam Allardyce.
