There are now less than two weeks to go until the summer transfer window shuts and each manager is working hard behind the scenes to finalise their squads for the season.

Tottenham made their first move of the transfer window on Friday, bringing in defender Davinson Sanchez for a club-record £42million. While Arsenal said goodbye to a defender of their own as Gabriel headed back to La Liga to join Valencia in an £11m deal.

However the biggest news emanating from the Premier League ahead of the second round of games was Liverpool rejecting a 125m bid from Barcelona for talisman Philippe Coutinho.

Premier League clubs circle for Lorient's Abdul Majeed Waris

SIMON JONES: West Ham, West Bromwich Albion and Burnley are showing keen interest in Lorient forward Abdul Majeed Waris.

The pacy Ghana international is rated at £12m by Lorient and the Premier League trio have all made enquiries in the past week.

The 25-year-old, who can operate as a winger or striker, first came to England as a 17-year-old to study at Hartpury College and the Nike academy and had trials with Manchester City.

He has scored 21 goals in 58 games for Lorient and has been tracked by Celtic, Brighton and Fulham too in recent months.

Leeds mulling over Jordan Rhodes move

SIMON JONES: Leeds are weighing up a move for Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes as they prepare to sell Chris Wood to Burnley.

Wolves are leading the chase for Rhodes who is available despite figuring in Wednesday's opening games of the season.

The Molineux club hope to sign the 27-year-old Scotland international on loan as they keep an eye on financial fair play guidelines.

Rhodes, who joined Wednesday on a £10million deal from Middlesbrough, has a prolific record at Championship level though has failed to show that in recent in months at Hillsborough.

Leeds are expected to sell Chris Wood to Burnley for £15m plus add-ons despite offering him a new improved contract this week. The 25-year-old travelled with Leeds to Sunderland for Saturday's game but Burnley hope to wrap up an agreement by Monday.

Leeds have also asked about Hamburg striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga on loan and Aston Villa's Ross McCormack. However, the latter seems destined for Sunderland.

Leeds United midfielder Liam Bridcutt, meanwhile, is in talks to join Nottingham Forest.

Kylian Mbappe's £163m move to PSG is nearing...

The long-running tansfer saga surrounding Monaco wonderkid Kylian Mbappe appears set to come to an end.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the deal between the two clubs has been agreed and the 18-year-old is set to be unveiled this week.

The forward will sign for a whopping £163million should the move go through, just weeks after Neymar's £198 switch from Barcelona.

Adama Traore wanted by Lille

SIMON JONES: Middlesbrough winger Adama Traore is wanted by Lille.

The French side are willing to offer £9.2million for the former Spain U19 international though Boro want to find a replacement first.

Traore, who has been considered by Chelsea in the past, is ready to leave with his only appearance so far coming off the bench against Burton Albion. 

Boro are weighing up options to replace Traore with Huddersfield Town's Joe Lolley, Marvin Johnson of Oxford United and Liverpool's Ryan Kent among the players on their wishlist.

SIMON JONES: Fulham have agreed a season loan for Porto full-back Rafa Soares.

The 22-year-old had a medical on Friday. Soares spent last year on loan at Rio Ave and has nine caps for Portugal U21s.

Tottenham poised to hand Kyle Walker-Peters new contract

SIMON JONES: Tottenham are ready to hand a third new contract in 18 months to full-back Kyle Walker-Peters.

The 20-year-old impressed on his debut last week against Newcastle United and the club are preparing to reward his progress with a new five year deal.

Walker-Peters signed his last contract in February which tied him to the club until 2019 but Mauricio Pochettino has been delighted with his development and how the England U20 international handled himself at St James' Park last week.

Tottenham are continuing to weigh up additions at full-back with Paris St Germain's Serge Aurier an option that Pochettino likes but Walker-Peters can play on both flanks and is seen as one for the future. Tottenham have concerns over the long-term future of Chelsea target Danny Rose while Kieran Trippier is out injured.

Tottenham have signed Davinson Sanchez from Ajax and are still discussing a possible move for Estudiantes defender Juan Foyth. The 19-year-old centre-back had seem destined for Paris St Germain but is keen on working with Pochettino.

Newcastle 'bid for Dennis Praet'

Newcastle have bid for Sampdoria midfielder and Belgium international Dennis Praet, according to Italian outlet Il Sicolo XIX.

Rafael Benitez has reportedly bid £13million for the Belgian as he looks to bolster his midfield on the Magpies' return to the Premier League.

The 23-year-old made over 182 appearances for Anderlecht before moving to Serie A in 2016.

Mateo Kovacic displays push Marcos Llorente closer to Real Madrid exit

Mateo Kovacic's displays in the heart of midfield of late have pushed fellow midfielder Marcos Llorente closer to the exit door at the Bernabeu, according to AS.

Llorente spent the season on loan at Alaves last term and was hoping to force his way into the first team fray at Real Madrid on his return.

And with Casemiro also a favourite of Zidane, the prominence of Kovacic means Llorente has fallen further down the pecking order, with Sevilla showing an interest in prising away the Madrid academy product.

Burnley closing in on £15m Leeds striker Chris Wood

SIMON JONES: Burnley are close to signing Leeds United striker Chris Wood for £15million plus add-ons. 

Leeds had tried to stave off the interest by offering Wood a new three-year contract and increasing his £15,000 a week wages.

SIMON JONES: Brighton and Hove Albion have offered £10million for Cardiff City striker Kenneth Zohore.

The deal could also see Tomer Hemed go the other way.

KIERAN GILL: Tottenham Hotspur broke the bank by their standards to sign 21-year-old Davinson Sanchez for £42million on a six-year deal on Friday.

For now, though, their priciest player on show at Wembley Stadium on Sunday is set to be Mousa Dembele, who cost £15m in 2012.

The bookmakers have Tottenham as favourites to win, as they see Antonio Conte’s Chelsea as a wounded animal.

There has been a lot of talk about Tottenham’s wages and how much money they are willing to part with, while Conte isn’t overly happy at having ‘only’ spent £150m this summer on four signings.

DANNY GALLAGHER: Barcelona will turn to their plan B option of Angel Di Maria and Jean Michael Seri after hitting a dead end in pursuits of Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele. 

The Spanish giants are running out of time to secure their top targets, with the transfer window set to slam shut in just under two week's time.
