Tottenham Premier League season 17-18 preview: Martin Keown's guide
The Premier League season is now just hours away, and it is time to look ahead to how the 20 teams will all get on.
Sportsmail has recruited columnist Martin Keown to run through reasons to be cheerful and fearful, as well as the key player and major signings.
Here is the lowdown on Tottenham...
WHO'S IN CHARGE?
Mauricio Pochettino - An outstanding manager who continues to impress. He has been superb in nurturing young players — particularly the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Eric Dier. Under his watch, Spurs have been the most consistent side over the last two seasons.
REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL
They have an exciting, young side which contains some of the country's best prospects. Harry Kane is aiming to be only the third player in Premier League history to score 20 goals in four consecutive seasons after Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry while Dele Alli is a two-time PFA young player of the year.
REASONS TO BE FEARFUL
Aside from Kyle Walker, Tottenham have kept their squad together and Kieran Trippier is a ready-made replacement. However a lack of signings so far — and the move to Wembley — could prevent Spurs from taking that step towards the Premier League title that has eluded them these last two seasons.
Christian Eriksen cannot afford to have a single off day if Tottenham want to push for the title
KEY PLAYER
Christian Eriksen - The unsung hero in Spurs' attack. He had a couple of bad games towards the end of last season and if Spurs are to push the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City all the way, he cannot afford to have a single off day.
MAJOR INS
None
MAJOR OUTS
Kyle Walker (Man City) £54m, Nabil Bentaleb (Schalke) £16m, Clinton Njie (Marseille) £6m, Federico Fazio (Roma) £3.8m
LAST SEASON POSITION: 2ND
WHERE WILL THEY FINISH THIS SEASON?
It will be another season with Tottenham as the bridesmaids — but with a different champion in Manchester City ahead of them.
