Cristiano Ronaldo showed great reflexes to save himself from a bad fall on Tuesday, as he managed to stay upright despite slipping on a towel as he walked off Real Madrid's team bus.

The Madrid superstar was videoed leaving Madrid's coach in Skopje ahead of the European Super Cup, but he momentarily lost his balance as he slipped on a stray towel placed on the steps of the team bus.

Ronaldo's leg flung upwards but he quickly managed to reach out onto the rails and steady himself to avoid falling over.

He appeared to take the incident in his stride, wearing a sheepish grin and offering a wink as he completed his exit from the coach.

Ronaldo has been included in Madrid's squad to face his former side Manchester United in the European Super Cup on Tuesday night.

The 32-year-old only returned to action last week after being allowed an extended break from football following his Confederations Cup campaign with Portugal.

Ronaldo has been on holiday with his family following the birth of his two twin babies and recently appeared in court to answer accusations of tax evasion.

In an excerpt from Ronaldo's defence in court, Cadena Sur reported that he told a judge he still harboured ambitions of playing in the Premier League, saying: 'I never had a problem in England… that's why I would like to go back to England'.

Champions League winners Madrid and Europa League holders United will face off in the Macedonian capital of Skopje, at the National Arena Philip II stadium.
