Chelsea manager Antonio Conte loses his cool after being questioned on club's summer transfer business

Antonio Conte snapped on Sunday after he was quizzed about Chelsea's transfer business as his team slumped to a successive Wembley loss to Arsenal.

Olivier Giroud smashed home the winning penalty in a shootout after summer signing Sead Kolasinac cancelled out Victor Moses' opener to give Arsenal victory in the Community Shield - just three months after their FA Cup Final win over the Blues.

Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois and record signing Alvaro Morata missed the decisive penalties for the Premier League champions on a controversial afternoon at Wembley.

Willian was wrongly booked for diving in the first half while his Chelsea team-mate Pedro was given a straight red card for a dangerous lunge on Mohamed Elneny.

It was a hugely disappointing afternoon for Conte, who was forced to field youngsters Kyle Scott, Charly Musonda Jr and Jeremie Boga - underlining growing concerns at the club's summer transfer activity.

Chelsea have splashed close to £150million on four new players this summer: Morata, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Willy Caballero.

Yet, Conte wants further reinforcements through the door, particularly given his side play in the Champions League this season.

The Italian has maintained the final decision on new signings rests with the club, a stance he has consistently stuck to during the summer.

But when he was questioned about transfers following Sunday's defeat; Conte provided an indicatively frosty answer.

He said: 'I have always replied to this question. I hope in the future to have different questions, than if there is necessity to improve our squad.

'I have replied. My reply is always (this) one, otherwise it means I was telling you a lie. I repeat always the same.'

On Willian's booking and Pedro's red-card, Conte added: 'I didn't see the yellow card for Willian but a lot of people told me the penalty was clear.

'For sure there is a bit of frustration, but you know very well we have to respect referees decisions. But sometimes these decisions make you a bit angry.

'The referee tried to explain to me about his decision. But there wasn't time, because also I wanted to ask him why it wasn't a penalty and the yellow card about Willian.

'But if we stayed speaking, we'd finish the game at 9pm. But for the second time, also if you remember in the final of the FA Cup, there was a controversial decision against us.'

Meanwhile, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey, who missed Sunday's game, are doubts for Friday night's Premier League opener against Leicester City.

Arsene Wenger also confirmed the club are trying to offload players before the transfer deadline.

He added: 'The number of players is too high, we will let some players go. Too much competition for places is detrimental, but not enough competition for places is detrimental as well. 'But 33 is too high.'
