Arsenal make it nine Wembley wins in a row but Arsene Wenger insists it is 'no more than encouragement' as he looks to avoid another bad start to the Premier League season

Another Arsenal triumph at Wembley sparked another deluge of ticker tape and another impromptu team celebration shot, gathered in the goalmouth where the penalties were taken.

It has been a prolific start to two more years of Arsene Wenger, winning the Emirates Cup on a technicality despite losing to Sevilla and beating Bayern Munich on penalties in China having been thoroughly outplayed for 90 minutes.

The winning habit is a good habit to get into whatever the stage of the season.

One or two in red-and-white seemed bewildered by the new ABBA penalty system but they fathomed it out eventually with a little help from the officials.

Chelsea understood the system but had trouble hitting the target, all of which set the scene perfectly for Arsenal's super trooper Olivier Giroud to steal in for the glory.

And there he was in the celebration shot, sprawled on the turf, very much front and centre, having a ball despite the arrival of a £52million record signing and persistent interest from Everton, West Ham and Marseille.

Contrary to popular belief, Giroud still has the spirit to fight for his place after five years at Arsenal.

As the first replacement for Alexandre Lacazette or someone to send on when ideas are running low and a goal is required, he is a useful man to have around.

He has made key contributions to their nine wins in a row at Wembley since the League Cup final in 2011 and stayed cool on Sunday to sweep the decisive penalty past Thibaut Courtois.

Twice they have beaten the champions with silverware at stake but Wenger is not about to be fooled.

Three FA Cup and Community Shield Doubles in four years are great for the photo montage but it is time to step up and compete for something heavier.

'It is an encouragement not more than that,' said Wenger. 'We want to find a good balance between the confidence we can get out of this game and the urgency that every Premier League game demands.

'We had some bad starts recently in the last four years, in the first games of the Premier League, but we had the intensity in our games in preparation that is needed to be ready.

'So let's go into the Premier League with the same discipline, the same spirit and see where he can go.'

Arsenal herald the new Premier League season against Leicester on Friday and are feeling the need to summon a genuine challenge for the title in a season when they are not in the Champions League.

Uncertainty surrounds the futures of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, both at Wembley thought not involved, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who started as a left-wing back.

But, as ever, there are reasons for hope, including the addition of Lacazette, who offered flashes of his strengths at Wembley, as he has in pre-season since his club record transfer from Lyon.

He may not hold up the ball in the style of Giroud or offer a physical presence but he has an electric change of pace and an eye for goal. He hit a post in the first-half and will be keen to open his account in the Premier League.

'Lacazette is stronger every week,' said Wenger. 'This was the first time we've seen him physically ready. He still needs to adapt to the intensity of the game but he had very interesting movements and I believe he will become stronger and stronger.'

He gives Arsenal a different dimension; whether this is what they have been lacking remains to be seen.

Sead Kolasinac, the other summer recruit, has certainly made a striking impact since his move on a free transfer from Schalke, and injected some competitive courage into Wenger's squad.

In the friendly against Bayern in Shanghai, Kolasinac tried to solider on while throwing-up on the pitch and then, having replaced Per Mertesacker at Wembley, operated out of position as one of three central defenders before grabbing the equaliser to take the game to penalties.

The Bosnian international might be the sort of steely character who can add something to the squad more valuable than his ability to chug up and down the left flank.

'The problem for the managers is to maintain that spirit through the season,' said Wenger. 'Through the difficult periods, maintain that togetherness as well.

'There will be some individual disappointments through the season, important that we focus on keeping together through every single game. The Premier League is very unpredictable, every game is a fight, as soon as you are a bit off you don't win.'
