Newcastle striker Ivan Toney is set to join Wigan on a season-long loan deal.

The forward is due to have a medical in the next 24 hours ahead of completing his switch.

Toney, 21, has made four senior appearances for the Magpies since joining from Northampton in 2015.

But he has spent the majority time away from St James' Park with loan spells at Barnsley, Shrewsbury and Scunthorpe.


Toney is set to become the Latics' seventh signing of the summer as they have acquired three players on free transfers and three on loan deals already.

Meanwhile Newcastle have strengthened ahead of their return to the Premier League, recruiting five players so far this window.
