Birmingham City have asked to take Ravel Morrison on loan from Lazio.
The Italian club turned down Birmingham's initial request to take the 24-year-old but their stance has changed in recent days.
Morrison has been training with Birmingham in recent weeks and featured in friendlies against Oxford United and Kidderminster Harriers.
Birmingham City want to sign Ravel Morrison on loan from Serie A club Lazio following a trial
Blues manager Harry Redknapp is keen to work with Morrison after a previous link-up at QPR
Morrison played under Redknapp at Loftus Road in 2014 and the pair were recently reunited
Loan moves have punctuated Morrison's career as the former Manchester United youth star has struggled to live up to expectation.
Morrison's two most successful loan stints to date have been his season-long stay at Birmingham in 2012-13 and the three months spent at Queens Park Rangers in the following campaign.
He scored six goals in 15 Championship appearances for QPR to help them secure promotion to the Premier League in 2014.
Harry Redknapp was the manager responsible for bringing Morrison to Loftus Road and the former QPR boss is now in charge of Birmingham.
Redknapp has an impressive record of getting the best out of controversial characters, having worked well with the likes of Paolo Di Canio and Emmanuel Adebayor.
If anyone can resurrect Morrison's troubled career, it's Harry.
Morrison has failed to start a single game in Italy's Serie A since joining Lazio in July 2015
The highlight of his frustrating career remains scoring for West Ham against Spurs in 2013
