West Ham return for second Marko Arnautovic bid

SIMON JONES: West Ham have had an improved £20million bid for Stoke City winger Marko Arnautovic rejected.

The Austrian international handed in a transfer request last week and is keen to push through a move.

West Ham made their first bid of around £15m last month but Stoke have so far resisted their offers with Mark Hughes saying he wants the 28-year-old to stay.

West Ham increased their bid but Stoke have again turned it down.

Arnautovic turned down a move to Everton last summer to sign a new contract at Stoke. The winger twisted his knee during Stoke's pre-season friendly against Neuchatel Xamax in Switzerland on Monday night.

Former West Ham manager Sam Allardyce tried to sign Arnautovic from Werder Bremen in 2013 for £2million.

Pereira desperate to prove his worth to Manchester United after loan

Andreas Pereira is delighted to be back at Manchester United and desperate to prove his worth to Jose Mourinho.

Last summer the 21-year-old was selected by the newly-appointed United boss for the pre-season trip to China, only to join Granada on a season-long loan later that summer.

Pereira was unable to prevent the Andalusians suffering relegation from La Liga despite impressing on an individual level - form he is determined to continue at Old Trafford.

Club return to pre-season training having chased shadows in the transfer market with chaos in the boardroom

PETE JENSON: Barcelona return to training on Wednesday but, new coach aside, it will be the same old faces at the club's Joan Gamper headquarters after the first six weeks of the summer have been spent chasing shadows in the transfer market and failing to get rid of the players the new manager doesn't want.

Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez both arrived in the city on Tuesday and their incorporation – Messi having agreed to sign a new contract keeping him at the club until 2022 – are the principal reasons to be cheerful.

But the failure to bring top targets Hector Bellerin and Marco Verratti, and the inability to shift the great unwanted – full-back Douglas, centre-back Thomas Vermaelen and midfielder Arda Turan have dampened any signs of optimism ahead of the new season.

Brighton rebuffed in bid for £13m-rated Gent winger Moses Simon

SIMON JONES: Brighton have had an £8.4million bid turned down for Gent winger Moses Simon.

The Nigeria international has been tracked by Tottenham, Liverpool and West Bromwich Albion in recent months but Brighton have made their move only for Gent to value him at £13million.

Simon, who turned 21 on Wednesday, impressed Tottenham when he played against them in the Europa League in February and also drew attention from other Premier League sides. He is quick, skilful and can also play as a second striker.

He has 11 caps for Nigeria and scored five goals in 38 appearances from the wing at Gent last season.

Rodriguez 'dreaming big and hoping for success'

DANIEL MATTHEWS: James Rodriguez is relishing his new life at Bayern Munich after completing a move to the Bundesliga club on his 26th birthday.

The Colombia international has moved to Germany on a two-year loan deal from Real Madrid, where he had struggled to cement a regular starting berth under Zinedine Zidane.

Rodriguez will be reunited with Carlo Ancelotti at Bayern, having previously worked with him in Spain. And the Italian boss has now seen his 'biggest wish' realised after the playmaker put pen to paper.

A bit more news from Scotland...

Ryan Christie ready for another season on loan at Aberdeen

JOHN McGARRY: For Ryan Christie, the gap in time between making his debut with Inverness and becoming the star man for the Highlanders was almost imperceptible.

While the player’s natural talent was always going to dictate that he would flee the nest sooner rather than later, it’s no slight on him to suggest the subsequent two years have found him some distance away from being front and centre each week.

A peripheral figure at Celtic, firstly under Ronny Deila and then Brendan Rodgers, the 22-year-old’s initial loan move to Aberdeen in January came with the rider that the limelight would have to be shared with established star names.

Costa undergoes Juve medical ahead of £5m loan move from Bayern

Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa is undergoing medical tests at Juventus ahead of his expected move, the Italian champions revealed.

The Bianconeri made a statement on their club website updating supporters.

It read: 'Douglas Costa is currently undergoing a routine medical ahead of a proposed transfer from Bayern Munich.'

Gary Mackay-Steven wanted by Aberdeen this summer

JOHN McGARRY: Derek McInnes has targeted Gary Mackay-Steven on a permanent deal – but Celtic and Aberdeen would need to significantly compromise their respective positions to get it across the line.

The 26-year-old was a peripheral figure throughout Brendan Rodgers’ first season in Glasgow with just five starts to his name. That has alerted McInnes to his availability but, as things stand, a transfer to Pittodrie in this window is unlikely.

A season-long loan is a non-runner due to rules forbidding clubs to have more than one player temporarily signed from another side in their division. McInnes has already taken Ryan Christie back on a season-long loan so would need to agree a fee with Celtic and personal terms with Mackay-Steven.

The 28-year-old departed Leicester's pre-season training camp in Austria on Tuesday to complete a medical and sign a three-year contract with the German outfit.

Zieler told Stuttgart's website: 'I am pleased that the change to VfB Stuttgart worked. Discussions with the person in charge of VfB were very convincing, they worked very hard in these conversations around me.'

Southampton take a look at Atletico Madrid striker Luciano Vietto

SIMON JONES: Southampton have enquired about signing Atletico Madrid striker Luciano Vietto.

The 23-year-old Argentine was signed from Villarreal for £17.5m in 2015 but he spent last season on loan at Sevilla where he scored ten goals in 31 games.

Sevilla had an option to sign Vietto but have not taken that up.

Chelsea hold talks with Real Madrid over Danilo

SIMON JONES: Chelsea have held further talks with Real Madrid over the prospect of signing full-back Danilo.

The Premier League champions want increased competition at full-back and have been struggling to reach accord with Juventus over left-back Alex Sandro.

Danilo, a £26m signing from Porto in 2015, has been pushed out of the Madrid starting line-up by the consistency of Spain right-back Dani Carvajal.

Chelsea confident of capturing Bakayoko

MATT BARLOW: Chelsea's pursuit of Tiemoue Bakayoko faces the threat of further disruption with Monaco prepared to consider the option of selling midfield partner Fabinho instead.

Paris Saint-Germain have offered £45million for the Brazilian although Monaco are not keen to sell to their wealthy domestic rivals.

Atletico Madrid have bid £40m to sign Fabinho now with a view to a move in January when their transfer ban has ended.

Manchester United have declared an interest in both Bakayoko and Fabinho but Monaco are determined not to sell both their central midfielders in the summer market.

Chelsea are confident of signing Bakayoko. They have long since led the race for the 22-year-old and believe he favours a move to Stamford Bridge with personal terms a formality.

And some news of a potential incoming at the Emirates

MIKE KEEGAN IN SYDNEY: Arsenal are growing increasingly confident that they will bring Thomas Lemar to the Emirates.

The Gunners have had bids of £30million and £40m for the winger rejected by Monaco so far this summer.

However, Sportsmail understands Emirates officials believe that their next offer, which is thought to be more than £45m, will be enough for the 21–year-old.

And, speaking on the club's pre-season tour in Sydney, a frank Giroud, who has interest from Everton, AC Milan, West Ham and Marseille, even referred to his Arsenal career in the past tense.

Finer details are still to be finalised but both parties are pleased at how negotiations have progressed and the Argentine striker should put pen to paper in the near future.

Palace look to have won the race for Riedewald

SIMON JONES: Everton's bid to sign Jairo Riedewald ahead of Crystal Palace seems to have arrived too late.

The 20-year-old Ajax defender looks set to keep his promise of linking up with his former boss Frank de Boer at Selhurst Park for £8.7million.

Riedewald also had interest from Newcastle United and Tottenham but believes he will gain more game time under De Boer and is heading to Palace.

Here's the full story on Adnan Januzaj that we touched on earlier

CHRIS WHEELER: Adnan Januzaj's Manchester United career is coming to an end with the Belgium winger on the brink of joining Real Sociedad in a £9.8million deal.

Januzaj’s departure from Old Trafford will complete a dramatic fall from grace for a player who was the brightest young prospect at United when he signed a lucrative five-year contract in 2013.

The 22-year-old never lived up to the expectations, however, and has spent much of the last two seasons out on loan at Sunderland and Borussia Dortmund.

It remains to be seen if United include a buyback option in the deal with Sociedad, which is expected to be confirmed on Wednesday, but it’s a sign of his marked decline that no-one at the club will be surprised to see him go.

City set to tie up deal for Brazilian teen Douglas Luiz

The Brazil U20 international midfielder is expected to join City's Spanish sister club FC Girona on loan.

The 19-year-old Douglas had signed a contract until 2021 at Vasco but has been under City's scrutiny since impressing at the South American U20 Championships.

He missed the weekend's game against Vitoria due to an ankle injury and has taken the chance to move to Europe with City.

City will take up a 50 per cent stake in Girona and also plan to loan them Belgium defender Jason Denayer and 19-year-old full-back Pablo Maffeo.

CHRIS WHEELER: Manchester United will increase their offer for Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic after wrapping up Romelu Lukaku's move to Old Trafford.

It will complete a dramatic fall from the grace for the young Belgian who was was United's brightest young prospect when he signed a five-year deal in 2013 but has spent much of the last two seasons out on loan at Sunderland and Borussia Dortmund.

Denayer blasts Manchester City and says he's been 'pushed' out on loan

Jason Denayer has criticised Manchester City for blocking his move to Lyon and ‘pushing’ him towards Girona.

The 22-year-old Belgium centre-back has spent the last three seasons on loan at Celtic, Galatasaray and Sunderland, and was hoping to secure a permanent transfer to Lyon this summer.

However, Denayer has accused City of ‘vetoing’ the deal and putting off clubs by demanding unfavourable terms for the player. Instead, Denayer claims City are forcing him towards Girona and says he will only join the Spanish club reluctantly.

Sportsmail reporter Jack Gaughan has just sent us an update on the Dani Alves story we brought you earlier:

Dani Alves turned his back on Manchester City after agreeing a stunning £12million-a-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

Pep Guardiola was seething at the Brazilian’s decision to snub City after terms had been thrashed out on a two-year deal.

He is set to be unveiled as a PSG player on Wednesday afternoon, however, after finalising a contract worth £230,000 a week in the French capital.

City had already made plans for Alves to be involved in their tour to the USA and expected him to join their squad this week.

The 34-year-old was allowed time to finish his holiday, such was Guardiola’s confidence that he would become a City player. City were unaware of PSG's interest until reports surfaced in France last weekend.

News just in on Arsenal's Dan Crowley...

Dan Crowley will have a medical at Willem II ahead of a permanent return to the Dutch Eredivisie.

Arsenal teen Crowley will sign a three-year deal as he searches for more regular football for a fee based heavily on his success.

The 19-year-old midfielder made a good impression in Holland during a six-month spell with Go Ahead Eagles despite relegation.

Arsene Wenger is a big admirer of Crowley's ability but with only a year left on his Arsenal contract he was determined to leave and develop his career.

There was plenty of interest from Germany and England's lower leagues and from other clubs in Holland.

Willem's manager, former Dutch international Joris Mathijsen, was a big factor in his decision.

Barkley misses out on Everton's pre-season tour...

Ross Barkley's future at Everton was plunged into greater doubt on Tuesday night when he was left out of their new-look squad heading to Tanzania for a pre-season friendly.

The club said the 23-year-old had suffered a groin injury and he was not in a 25-man group — which includes new signings Wayne Rooney, Michael Keane and Davy Klaassen — that left Liverpool Airport for Dar Es Salaam last night.

The midfielder has entered the final 12 months of his contract but will not commit to a new deal and Everton manager Ronald Koeman believes Barkley should be sold if he is not prepared to sign.

...and it concerns a player Manchester City now AREN'T going to get.

JACK GAUGHAN: Pep Guardiola was left seething on Tuesday night after Dani Alves went back on his word to snub Manchester City.

Alves, Guardiola’s primary target at right back, jetted into France on Tuesday to thrash out terms on a two-year deal with Paris Saint-Germain with a press conference scheduled on Wednesday where he is expected to be unveiled.

That startling development shocked City’s manager, who was convinced the Brazilian would become his third signing of the summer.
