- Tottenham are refusing to countenance any deal for England midfielder Dier
- Chelsea will only let Matic move on if they sign Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco
Manchester United are considering a move for Borussia Dortmund and Germany midfielder Julian Weigl.
United are determined to add a holding midfielder to their squad this summer and Jose Mourinho has outlined Tottenham’s Eric Dier and Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic as his two first options.
However, Tottenham are so far refusing to countenance any deal for England midfielder Dier while Chelsea will only consider allowing Matic to move on once they seal a move for Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko.
Manchester City and Barcelona have also been tracking Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl
United remain privately confident of sealing a deal for Matic but the club will continue to monitor the German Weigl.
Weigl, 21, broke his ankle at the end of the season in May and will be out of action until mid-September.
The injury blow has cooled transfer speculation after Manchester City and Barcelona also tracked him for significant parts of last season.
United will persist in their pursuit but any move may wait until January or next summer once the player has recovered from injury and recaptured his best form.
Nemanja Matic's potential move to Manchester United depends on Chelsea's transfer success
Chelsea are hoping to tempt Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko to Stamford Bridge
