  • Hull are looking for up to £10million for the 26-year-old converted winger
  • Leicester released Clucas for being too small aged 16 but he has rebuilt career
  • Gareth Southgate sent scouts to check on him at the KC Stadium last season

Newcastle United are interested in signing Hull City's Sam Clucas but his former club Leicester, West Brom and Burnley have also enquired about the midfielder's availability.

Sportsmail understands that, while no formal bids have been tabled, Clucas is on a shortlist of midfield options drawn up by Magpies boss Rafa Benitez.

It is thought that a fee between £8million and £10m would be enough to secure the signature of the 26-year-old.

Clucas was Hull's Player of the Season as they were relegated from the Premier League and he is not short of top-flight suitors.

Newcastle have been keeping tabs on him since January, while Leicester, West Brom and Burnley have also registered their interest in recent weeks.

Clucas has been transformed from a winger to holding midfield player in the past 12 months and England boss Gareth Southgate has sent scouts to check on him and team-mate Harry Maguire, who has since joined Leicester in a £17m deal.

It was Leicester who released Clucas for being too small aged 16 and he rebuilt his career at the Glenn Hoddle Academy in Spain before signing for Hereford and playing in England's top five divisions in as many seasons.

He became the first player to score in those five leagues in consecutive years when he netted against Leicester in March.
