Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez has given fans a scare after revealing his badly-swollen ankle following Chile's victory over Cameroon on Sunday.

The 28-year-old, who sprained his ankle in training just days ago, started on the bench during the Confederations Cup opener but was brought on in the 58th minute with the scores still level.

The move had the desired impact, with Sanchez crossing for Arturo Vidal's deadlock breaker.

But it may have come at a price as the FA Cup winner shared a video of his severely-bruised foot on Instagram following the match.

He had appeared in discomfort after the game and was seen wrapping tape around his ankle.

'We're optimistic from the images we've seen,' manager Juan Antonio Pizzi had said prior to the game.

'But we understand and know that the player still feels pain, and that's why we'll wait until tomorrow to decide if he plays.

'We don't risk any player who is not in condition to play and who could aggravate an injury.

'We're very careful with the health of our players, and because of that we always act with the responsibility required by our position.'

Sanchez is still expected to be back in the starting line-up for their encounter against Germany in Kazan on Thursday.
