Tony Pulis hopeful Darren Fletcher will agree new contract at West Brom

  • Baggies boss is confident they will convince the 33-year-old to stay
  • West Brom captain Fletcher is yet to agree terms on a new contract
  • The midfielder has been at the Hawthorns for two-and-a-half years

Tony Pulis is adamant Darren Fletcher’s contract stand-off will be resolved and does not expect West Bromwich Albion’s game at Swansea to be his last for the club.

The West Brom captain is yet to agree terms on a new contract and Pulis has admitted he could potentially leave.

But Pulis also strongly believes an agreement will be reached for Fletcher to extend his two-and-a-half year stay at the Hawthorns.

Fletcher triggered an automatic 12-month extension in his favour by appearing in the requisite number of games before the turn of the year but has yet to put pen to paper with exact terms still under discussion, raising concern in some quarters.

The midfielder was instrumental to West Brom’s fine first three-quarters of the campaign and started in 86 consecutive Premier League matches after signing in February 2015, only seeing the run end in late April.

A two-year offer is understood to be on the table and edging towards completion but other Premier League clubs are alert to the situation.

‘I’m hoping it’ll all be sorted out,’ said Pulis.

‘I’m not involved in those discussions thankfully, that’s for the club, Darren and his people. If he decides he wants to go and the club can’t do it then we can’t. We move on. We’ re all hoping that’s not the case.

‘It’s always one side wants to have a little bit of this and the other. I’m sure they’ll come together, I’m convinced. He’s been here two-and-a-half years now and has been fantastic as a captain, a person and everything else.’
