  • Liverpool star Roberto Firmino has not trained all week with a muscular issue
  • Manager Jurgen Klopp unsure whether his the striker will pass a fitness test
  • Daniel Sturridge is on standby to take over the role as Liverpool's main striker

Roberto Firmino is a major doubt for Liverpool's crucial trip to West Ham with Jurgen Klopp unsure whether his influential striker will pass a fitness test.

The Brazil international has not trained all week since playing the full 90 minutes in the 0-0 draw with Southampton last Sunday.

He had a similar issue with muscle fatigue in March, which caused him to miss the game with Burnley at Anfield, and Klopp is worried that he will not be available for what will be a decisive afternoon at the London Stadium.

'We are struggling a little bit with Roberto again and Lucas Leiva this week,' said Klopp. 'After the game they felt something, we have to wait and see what they can do there. I have said a few times as long as we have 11 we will be fine.

'For a few weeks we have had to manage Roberto's intensity in training and all that stuff. He feels another muscle a little bit. Roberto is a real mentality player, he wants always to be involved and we need to make decisions for him.

'We left him out of training and have to wait and give him as much time as possible. Both him as Lucas played 90 minutes.

'We asked a few times ''are you ok?'' and they said ''yes'', then after the game they felt it. Lucas felt two different muscles after the game. He could be back in training on Friday and Roberto the day after if possible.'

Daniel Sturridge, who has not started a Premier League game since January 2, is on standby to take over the role as Liverpool's main striker and Klopp gave an upbeat bulletin about the England striker, insisting he is 'ready' if he needs to be called upon.

Sturridge has endured a hugely frustrating season and has not completed 90 minutes in the Premier League since May 11 last year but Klopp will have no hesitation turning to him if Firmino fails to make it into training.

'So far it's been difficult because you can't start a player then have to think after 40 minutes "So we have to change?". I was happy to have the opportunity to bring him on the pitch.

'The starting line-up did their job and then you could bring on a fresh Daniel Sturridge. That makes sense, like the last game with Adam Lallana.

'Top players, so they have impact. Now the situation is different again. It's another week we've had him training and so far so good, so hopefully we have a few options.

'There are always moments when you think you can use speed so Adam Lallana is a nice option to have and Daniel is a wonderful option to have but it is all about being fit or not.

'It is not the name we bring on the pitch, it is the player, the human being, in this specific shape. Now both of them, and it is really good timing, are in a really good moment.'
