He has some way to go before he catches up to his wife's tattoo total but Robert Pires showed off his new artwork on Wednesday.

The Arsenal legend, who has taken on a role helping his former club in first-team training sessions this season, took to Instagram to show off his ink, believed to be a lion.

The 43-year-old's wife Jessica Lemarie-Pires has him beat, though, as she got tattoo No 20.

Pires' wife previously spoke to the Daily Mail and talked about her 19 other tattoos.

Among them is 'What doesn't kill you makes you stronger' on her right bicep. On that, she said: 'Before I met my husband I didn't have a nice life. I had a lot of problems.'

Now, with her Japanese cherry blossom, she has No 20.

Her husband, meanwhile, is staying close to his former club.

Asked about whether a job as Arsenal sporting director would interest him, Pires, who was at their training ground again this week, said: 'Yes, that is my objective.

'I don't know what will happen in the future, but I need to talk about it with the owners and Arsene Wenger. I'd love this job, I love to talk with the players.

'If I'm given this job one day, I can stay in contact with football, especially with Arsenal.

'I have a good relationship with the manager, that's important. I can work with the players, I can give advice to the young players, so we can find a good relationship between me and the players.

'I'm lucky because I'm still training with the first team sometimes. I maintain a good relation with the players and manager Arsene Wenger.'

Pires is also acting as an ambassador for Arsenal.
