West Ham manager Slaven Bilic insists he has club's support as he looks to turn around season at Liverpool

  • West Ham are just one point above the Premier League relegation zone
  • David Sullivan gave Slaven Bilic a vote of confidence during the week
  • Bilic's side has been on a run of five matches without a victory in the league
  • The manager believes his side can exploit Liverpool's attacking nature
  • Bilic praised Daniel Sturridge but admitted injuries had held the striker back

Slaven Bilic insisted he maintains the full support of the West Ham hierarchy and has vowed it is time to ‘turn around’ their troubled season.

The Hammers sit just one point above the Premier League relegation zone ahead of Sunday’s visit to Liverpool and Bilic admitted they were ‘humiliated’ in last weekend’s 5-1 loss to Arsenal.

He received a vote of confidence from the club’s co-owner David Sullivan in the week despite a winless run of five matches in the league.

Of the meeting with the board, Bilic said: ‘We had a conversation like we normally have. I speak to the chairman after every game, a couple of days after the game. It was a good conversation but it wasn’t a meeting.

‘I feel the support, I have said it so many times. In the conversation we had, I felt the support. I know what we achieved last season and it is time for us to turn it around.’

Despite Liverpool being the highest-goalscorers in the Premier League as they chase the title, they have often been loose at the back, as shown by their dramatic 4-3 defeat at Bournemouth last weekend.

And Bilic believes that West Ham can capitalise on this when they head to Anfield: ‘They are an attack-minded side and so first of all, you have to be solid and stop them creating and scoring, countering into those position where they are very dangerous.

‘They attack with numbers and leave the back quite open and there is a lot of space. They have a good transition, but there is a big space sometimes.

‘They are definitely one of the [title] contenders, some of their football is great. Most of their football to be fair, they are quite consistent.

‘The last result [at Bournemouth] was not the greatest, when they are winning 3-1 [to lose 4-3] but they are definitely one of the title contenders.’

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge could be on his way out of the club in January and West Ham have been linked with the England international.

Bilic recognises his talent but believes injury have stopped him reaching his full potential.

‘He is a good player, one of the biggest talents if you can call him a talent any more,’ he said. ‘The only thing that stopped him being a regular in the club and the national team - fulfil his potential - are injuries.

‘The talent is there, the finishing, everything is great, apart from one thing [fitness]. But that is the most important thing.’

Bilic will be boosted by the return from injury of Michail Antonio and Aaron Cresswell for Sunday’s game, but Cheikhou Kouyate is more likely to come back in the midweek match with Burnley.
