Here we go...

Teams in pot one to come first...

17:14
Still waiting...

Oh wait, apologies all. We're going to have a technical overview first.

It's like turning up for a film screening when it's listed. Always give yourself 25 minutes for the ads.

Pretty sure we'll be off and running by 5.20pm. Don't hold me to that, though.

17:12
We're getting there... slowly

Next up is Seedorf. The only man to win the Champions League with three different clubs and three different hairstyles.

His introduction over, it feels like we're on the verge of the draw...

The Rush is on

Rush - one of tonight's special guests and the ambassador for the 2017 final - is being introduced to the crowd via a series of photos of his carer. That moustache just never seemed to age.

He arrives with the Champions League trophy. Clean shaven.

Blast from the past

Before we get into the crux of the matter, UEFA are inviting us to walk down memory lane with a highlights montage from last season's Champions League.

In case your memory needs a job, Real Madrid lifted the trophy after being Atletico on penalties.

That was only three months ago.

It's a gala

Aha, they're calling it the group stage 'draw and gala'. Looking forward to discovering exactly what 'gala' entails.

Presenter selfie alert! Within two minutes one of our two hosts is already busy taking a picture with the nominees for the UEFA MVPs for both men and women. Griezmann looks appalled.

17:00
We're ready for the off

There are a lot of screaming youngsters outside the venue in Monaco as Ronaldo arrives, in shades and a smart chequered suit.

Inside, lights are down and the audience is ready. Let's see who gets who...

Ten minutes from draw time...

Or 10 minutes away from the scheduled start time, at least. I might open a sweepstake on when the balls start being opened.

16:49
Bale has landed...

Not far in front of Ronaldo was Gareth Bale. The Welshman arrived with his Real Madrid team-mate by helicopter in Monaco a short while ago. He's also up for the UEFA MVP award.

16:45
Ronaldo is in the building...

Well, he will be by now. The Portuguese - who's expected to pick up the UEFA MVP award for 2015-16 today - has been snapped in Monaco after touching down earlier today.

I spy Clarence Seedorf

Clarence Seedorf, Ian Rush, Thierry Henry - half a pretty decent six-a-side team getting pampered backstage in Monaco...

16:38
Lineker still can't quite believe it...

Will Gary Lineker be making any rash bets about the Foxes' chances in the Champions League?

16:36
No surprises in the Champions League, says Owen

'You don't tend to get too many surprise Champions League winners,' says Michael Owen on BT Sport.

'There are half-a-dozen serious challengers.'

The ex-Liverpool and Real Madrid man politely counts out Leicester from being able to make an impact on the later rounds.

More Champions League places for the Premier League

England is set to have four guaranteed places in the Champions League group stage from the 2018-19 season.

Currently there are automatic spots for three English clubs, with a fourth having to qualify through a play-off, as Manchester City did this week after finishing fourth in the Premier League last term.

It is understood a revamp will see the top four nations in UEFA's rankings for club competitions - currently Spain, Germany, England and Italy - each get guaranteed places for the teams finishing in the top four in those leagues.

Eager to get started...

It's fair to say Jan Vertonghen of Tottenham is a little over-excited. Afraid to say, Jan, it's going to be a while until we know where Spurs will be jetting off to this year.

16:23
City ease into Champions League draw

Manchester City were the final English club to confirm their place in the group stage draw.

Pep Guardiola's men saw off Steaua Bucharest 1-0 in the second leg of their qualifying tie on Wednesday, completing a 6-0 aggregate victory.

How does it all work?

As with most football draw formats, the Champions League organisers have mastered the art of the long-winded.

While kick-off might be 5pm this evening, expect a lengthy introduction of several celebrity guests and an exhaustive explanation of how the whole thing works.

Basically, each group features one team from each of four pots. No two teams from the same country can be drawn in the same group. Russian and Ukrainian teams can't play each other, either.

So, who's involved?

Well, the English representatives at the draw in Monaco - which is due to kick off at around 5pm - are Leicester, Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City.

Scotland's hopes are pinned on the shoulders of Celtic while the usual suspects - Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, Bayern Munich and PSG - all await their fate.

And some big names have flown in to watch the 'action' unfold...

It's that time of year again
