Antonio Conte believes he has seen enough in his first week in charge of Chelsea to ensure he can make the club’s supporters proud this season and challenge for the Premier League title.
The former Italy coach, reflecting on the club’s six-day tour of Austria, spoke passionately about putting last year’s misery behind them.
Chelsea finished 10th in the Premier League and Conte, whose side lost 2-0 at Rapid Vienna on Saturday and triumphed 3-0 over AC Wolfsberger on Wednesday night, has no doubts they can improve on that and launch an assault on the Premier League title after just over a week in the job.

‘I want our fans to be very proud about the players and the manager, it’s very important,’ Conte said.
‘Usually when there are these bad seasons it means there are many problems but the past is not important for me, for the club, for the players.
'What is important is the present, we have to fight together to come back and fight for the title.
'It’s important to stay together and overcome this bad period for Chelsea, to come back to play the Champions League, because it’s Chelsea’s home.’

Conte, who is targeting a number of new arrivals following the signings of Batshuayi and £32m N’Golo Kante, is renowned for his commitment to hard work and has been putting his new charges through double training sessions every day.
‘We must work a lot,’ he said. ‘We come after a bad season, after a 10th place and we need to come back very soon in the right position because Chelsea is a great team in England and in the world.
