Touted as one to watch at Euro 2016, Embolo was also thought to be a transfer target for Arsenal and Manchester United this summer, but Schalke beat the Premier League duo to the teenager's signature.

Schalke revealed Embolo's signing to thousands of fans at its annual members' meeting, with a video message suggesting the club beat interest from clubs including Barcelona, Manchester United and Arsenal.

Embolo appeared in the video wearing a Schalke shirt, saying that: 'I'm happy to be a Royal Blue,'

He played in all four of Switzerland's games at Euro 2016, without scoring, and came on in the second half of Saturday's penalty shootout defeat to Poland.

However he will now have to make do with a spot in the Europa League, after Schalke could only finish fifth in last season's Bundesliga.

He will now join the likes of Dutchman Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and former Chelsea striker Franco Di Santo in the Schalke forward line.
