Mikel Arteta is joining Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City backroom team.

Former Arsenal captain Arteta has agreed to become one of Guardiola’s coaches next season, with the appointment to be confirmed imminently.

The Spaniard has rejected the Gunners’ attempts to keep him at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal offered Arteta a coaching role in their academy.

Sportsmail revealed Guardiola’s move for his countryman earlier this year; the pair are close from growing up together in the Barcelona academy.

The news will come as blow to Arsenal, who believe Arteta has the potential to become a top-class manager.

But the opportunity to work alongside Guardiola has proved too enticing an opportunity to turn down.
