Sunderland have made an offer for Belgian defender Nicolas Lombaerts at Zenit St Petersburg.

The Russians value the 30-year-old at £10million and he has attracted enquiries from Everton in recent weeks. However, former Belgium national coach Dick Advocaat, who signed Lombaerts for Zenit in 2007, has proposed a £5m deal which Zenit are considering.

West Ham co-chairman David Gold has confirmed the club are looking to secure Carl Jenkinson's return to Upton Park.

The Arsenal full back spent last season on loan with the Hammers and manager Slaven Bilic is hopeful of retaining his services for the new campaign.

Pasilic agrees Monaco loan

SIMON JONES: Chelsea midfielder Mario Pasalic has agreed to join Monaco on loan.

The move is part of the deal that will see Monaco striker Radamel Falcao go to Chelsea for a season. The 20-year-old Pasalic travelled for his medical earlier today.

The Croatia international joined Chelsea last summer but spent the season with Elche on loan.

Watford have completed a deal for Greece left back Jose Holebas from Roma for an initial fee of £1.8million, the Italian club have confirmed.

Roma announced on their official website on Thursday that Holebas, 31, will switch to the newly-promoted Premier League club in a move that could also include up to £350,000 worth of add-ons.

SIMON JONES: Tottenham want to launch a bid for Everton midfielder James McCarthy.

As reported by Sportsmail on Wednesday, Daniel Levy is due in Spain to broker a deal with Atletico Madrid for Toby Alderweireld but they also want to strengthen the centre of their midfield.

McCarthy is frustrated at Everton who have yet to approach him about discussions over a new, revised contract.

CHRIS WHEELER: Manchester City will listen to offers for Edin Dzeko amid reports in Italy that Roma have already agreed personal terms over a four-year deal for the Bosnia striker.

Dzeko, 29, only signed a new contract at the Etihad last summer but his future has been in doubt since City brought in Wilfried Bony from Swansea for £28million in the January transfer window.

City are unlikely to accept anything less than £20m for Dzeko who has scored 72 goals in 189 games for the club since arriving from Wolfsburg for £27m in January 2011.

JACK BEZANTS: Johan Cruyff is sceptical about whether Barcelona need to sign Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, and has criticised the club for not doing enough to bring youngsters through in recent seasons.

The Barcelona and Ajax legend took to his own website to voice his queries regarding France international Pogba, who Barcelona have reportedly tabled an offer of £56.7million.

'In my opinion he is a great player,' Cruyff said. 'But if you are a coach, you sign a player to make the other players and the team better.'

BEN NAGLE: Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has hailed his new Reds team-mate Nathaniel Clyne and believes the full back can improve even more at Anfield.

The pair were at Southampton together, before Lallana moved north last summer, and they have now been reunited following Clyne's £12.5million deal.

SAM CUNNINGHAM: Aston Villa have launched a £1.1million bid for Ajax wing back Nicolai Boilesen.

The 23-year-old is highly-rated and has already won 15 Denmark caps, but has moved into the final year of his contract and Villa manager Tim Sherwood is hoping to purchase him for a bargain fee.

Boilsen, who operates down the left flank, is the sort of attacking full back Sherwood wants in his Villa team.

Juan Cuadrado is 'happy' at Chelsea and has no plans to leave this summer despite a difficult start to life at Stamford Bridge since his £27million January move.

Chelsea splashed out to bring the Colombian winger to London from Fiorentina but he has faltered with appearances limited to mistake-ridden cameos towards the end of the season.

Inter Milan and Juventus have been linked with an escape offer for Cuadrado to bring him back to Serie A but the player's agent says he has no intention of quitting the Barclays Premier League champions.

Liverpool look set to lose out on the signing of Carlos Bacca with the Sevilla forward due to have a medical in the next few days to complete his transfer to AC Milan.

According to Italian sports newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan representatives have travelled to Barranquilla, Colombia, where Bacca is currently on holiday, to oversee a medical.

Sevilla confirmed on Wednesday that AC Milan were prepared to pay Bacca's £21million buy-out clause to acquire the South American this summer.

PETE JENSON: Real Madrid’s 16-year-old Norwegian international Martin Odegaard could be set to join the club he made his debut against last season.

La Liga minnows Getafe have added their name to the list of sides that want to take him on loan this summer and their president Angel Torres met with Real officials this week to discuss how the move might work. 

Odegaard made his debut against Getafe in a 7-3 win at the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of last season now they have moved to the top of queue of potential loan clubs.

OLIVER TODD: Sporting Lisbon have signed tsunami survivor Martunis to their academy, 11 years after the disaster that forced him to survive on puddle water for 21 days and killed his mother and two brothers.

Martunis, now 17, was unveiled in the Portuguese capital having pursued his dream in spite of the desolation brought on by the disaster that hit his home in Indonesia on Boxing Day 2004.

The giant waves, caused by an earthquake in the Indian Ocean, killed 230,000 people across 14 countries and separated the young boy from his family, leaving him to live off some noodles he had found and water from puddles.

Cattermole ties down new Sunderland deal

Lee Cattermole has committed his long-term future to Sunderland by signing a five-year contract extension.

The 27-year-old midfielder, who had 12 months remaining on his existing deal, has now been tied up until the summer of 2021.

Head coach Dick Advocaat said: 'Lee is the controller of the side. He is a motivator, a leader and central to the success of our team. To know that he will be with us for many years to come is very important to the club.'

ADAM SMITH: With Manchester United circling, Bastian Schweinsteiger needs to make a decision on where he will be playing his football, says his manager Pep Guardiola. 

The Germany international could be tempted by new surroundings, having spent a successful 13 years at Bayern Munich.

JONNY SINGER: Jackson Martinez's move to Atletico Madrid not only bolsters the Spanish side's forward line, it also increases Porto's remarkable record for selling players.

Since winning the Champions League in 2004 the Portuguese club have received almost £500million in transfer fees.

The Atletico Madrid star is on Mauricio Pochettino's hitlist but a move for the defender is far from certain.

SEAN GALLAGHER: Alex Song has fuelled speculation that he is closing in on a return to West Ham after uploading a video on Instagram of him training in the club's new training shorts in the gym on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old, who impressed for the Hammers during a loan spell last season, is believed to have been at the club's training base when doing the exercise drills.

As Sportsmail revealed on Monday, the Cameroon international has agreed personal terms with the east London side and is now awaiting a medical ahead of a permanent move. 

A fee is yet to be agreed with Barcelona for the former Arsenal midfielder though, with the Hammers keen to land Song on a free transfer ideally.

CHRIS WHEELER: One-time England striker Kevin Davies has accused Preston North End of reneging on the offer of a new deal at Deepdale.

Davies helped the club to win promotion from League One last season and is upset that chairman Peter Ridsdale and manager Simon Grayson have gone back on assurances that he would be rewarded with a player-coach role to continue his career at the age of 38.

The former Southampton, Blackburn and Bolton striker is also angry that Preston’ s decision to place him on their retained list five weeks ago deterred other clubs from offering him a contract.

PETE JENSON: Barcelona are confident of beating Chelsea to the signing of Arda Turan with the player expected to complete the £25million move as soon as personal terms are finalised.

Barca coach Luis Enrique requested the 28-year-old Atletico Madrid midfielder be signed before he went on holiday.

It now seems that when he returns to begin pre-season training the captain of the Turkey national side will be under his orders although he will not be able to play for Barca in an official match until 2016 because of their FIFA-imposed ban on registering players.

MARK WILSON: Ronny Deila secured Saidy Janko as a second summer signing and immediately challenged him to force his way into Celtic’s Champions League plans.

The former Manchester United youngster has signed a four-year contract, subject to the results of a medical, after finalising the deal in Glasgow on Wednesday.

Janko was at St Mirren Park to watch from the stand as his new side opened their build-up to the crucial European qualifiers with a 2-0 friendly win over Den Bosch.

De Gea, 24, has not signed a £200,000-a-week contract extension to remain at Old Trafford amid strong interest from the La Liga giants.

Inter Milan are closing in on a deal for Manchester City's surplus-to-requirements striker Stevan Jovetic.

The Serie A giants met the Montenegro international's representatives in Italy on Tuesday with a view of triggering a move away from the Etihad Stadium.

City will look for around £15m for the 25-year-old, who cost them an initial £22m when he joined the club from Fiorentina in 2013. 

However, Inter are thought to prefer a loan deal with an agreement to make the deal permanent at its conlcusion.

Juventus are also interested in Jovetic but the striker is understood to prefer a switch to the San Siro where he would work under Roberto Mancini, who left City two months before he signed for the club.

OLIVER TODD: Robin van Persie, David de Gea and Nani could all be heading for the Manchester United exit door in the coming days, according to reports in the press around Europe on Thursday.

Louis van Gaal is said to have named his price - £25million - for Real Madrid to complete a move for De Gea, while Van Persie is being lined up as Besiktas' new striker. Nani has welcomed visitors from Fenerbahce as he looks to leave, too.

Turkish paper Fanatik have Van Persie splashed across their front page as cash-rich Besiktas look to make him their first-choice centre forward for next season.

SIMON JONES: Everton are showing an interest in West Brom right back Cristian Gamboa as they look for cover for Seamus Coleman. 

Manager Roberto Martinez has drawn up a list including Leeds United's Sam Byram and Brentford's Moses Odubajo. 

21-year-old right back Byram is valued at £8million by Leeds owner Massimo Cellino after coming through the club's academy to become a key first-team player.

BREAKING: Fulham sign Jazz Richards from Swansea

Fulham have confirmed the arrival of Jazz Richards from Swansea for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £500,000.

The Wales international underwent a medical on Wednesday before signing for the Craven Cottage club.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at the club, starting 14 matches, and said of his permanent move:

'When I was on loan here last season I settled in straight away with the lads and the staff, and I enjoyed the style of football that Kit Symons was trying to get the team playing. That made me want to come back.'

Serie A club Roma have secured the signing of Iago Falque from Genoa.

The Spanish midfielder will initially join on loan for a fee of €1 million, with a commitment to buy the player 12 months later for €7m providing he has made at least one competitive appearance.

Hammond signs Leicester extension

Leicester midfielder Dean Hammond has signed a new contract with the club after his previous deal expired.

The 32-year-old made just 12 appearances in the club's Premier League survival battle last season and was out of contract at the end of June but will stay on for another 12 months.

'Dean, whose previous deal expired on Tuesday, has agreed terms on a one-year extension and will report for pre-season training with the squad next week,' said a statement on Leicester's official website.

LAURIE WHITWELL: Leicester City face a race against time to appoint a new manager with a shortlist still being assembled following the sacking of Nigel Pearson.

The club are understood to have had no candidate in mind when they dismissed Pearson on Tuesday even though the Premier League starts in five weeks and some players reported back to training yesterday, with the majority returning next week.

Bolton boss Neil Lennon, who is the bookies’ favourite to take charge, still holds Leicester close to his heart but has, as yet, had no contact about the vacancy.

Nathaniel Clyne completed his £12million move to Liverpool and admitted the Reds have to do better this season.

The Southampton right back became Brendan Rodgers’ sixth signing of the close season after completing the paperwork on a five-year contract.

Clyne thinks the additions to the squad will help the club seek to regain Champions League status.

‘There is room for improvement and you can see with the signings that have been made, we’re pushing for it,’ he told liverpoolfc.com.

‘If we get a good pre-season and start the season brightly, it’ll be looking good. I’m fully confident I am good enough to play for a team like Liverpool. What I need to do now is show that.’

Brentford secure Bjelland signing

Another one through the door at Griffin Park - Brentford have signed Danish defender Andreas Bjelland from FC Twente.

Speaking to the club's website, Brentford head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen said: 'I am very happy that we have brought Andreas to Brentford.

'He brings a lot of experience to the squad and that is good for us as we have a lot of young players. He is good defender but also likes to play football from the back.

'Andreas is also a Danish international and it is good for the image of Brentford FC that we can attract such players.'

CHRIS WHEELER AND PETE JENSON: Manchester City face an increasingly desperate battle to sign Paul Pogba from Juventus, but hope to take a step closer to landing Kevin De Bruyne when his agent meets with Wolfsburg next week.

City’s fears that Pogba could end up at Barcelona next year were confirmed on Wednesday when two senior representatives of the Spanish club, Ariedo Braida and Albert Soler, met with Juve’s managing director Giuseppe Marotta and sporting director Fabio Paratici at a Milan restaurant.

Marotta later confirmed that a bid of £56.7million had been received for Pogba, but insisted the 22-year-old France midfielder would not be sold.
