  • He says Spurs are focused on securing a top four finish this season

Kyle Walker hopes Swansea will have been intimidated by Tottenham's performance in the Capital One Cup final.

Spurs lost 2-0 to Chelsea on Sunday, but for the first 44 minutes, they were on top and should have taken the lead.

Christian Eriksen rattled the bar with a wonderful free-kick and Spurs had little trouble dealing with the twin threat of Eden Hazard and Diego Costa until the Blues took the lead in the last minute of the half.

With Spurs now out of the League Cup and the Europa League, their sole remaining aim is to qualify for the Champions League.

That quest resumes on Wednesday when Swansea visit White Hart Lane and Walker believes the Welsh side will have been impressed by the way Spurs played at the weekend.

'It's not been the best of weeks but we have a good run of fixtures coming up starting with Swansea. They should come to White Hart Lane looking at what we have done on Sunday and hopefully they will be on the back foot a little bit,' the Tottenham and England right-back said.

'Hopefully we can take the game to them and then show the Premier League what we can do.'

Tottenham have a match in hand but they have slipped six points behind fourth-place Manchester United in recent weeks after drawing against West Ham and losing at Liverpool.

The north London club have not won since their derby triumph against Arsenal three-and-a-half weeks ago and they were also knocked out of the Europa League by Fiorentina, but Walker is not concerned Spurs' season is starting to fizzle out.

'We have had a tricky run of fixtures,' he said.

'We've played away at Anfield, twice against Fiorentina, and we did well to come back from 2-0 down against West Ham.

'If we keep winning the games and people drop points behind us it will put us up there. We just need to keep on doing what we have been doing in recent weeks.

'The desire and passion we have shown has been fantastic.'

Walker believes there were signs on Sunday that Tottenham are growing in the estimations of their rivals.

He thinks it was a compliment to Spurs that Chelsea lined up in a defensive formation to deal with the threat posed by Eriksen and 24-goal striker Harry Kane.

'They have put Kurt Zouma, Gary Cahill and John Terry in and you never thought those three would play in the same pitch together, as defensive as that and then you have Ramires and Fabregas who is a great player but probably hasn't got the legs he used to getting up and down so it's a full credit to Tottenham.

'I couldn't see much difference (between the two teams).

'I think both goals were sloppy. If we were talking about Hazard scoring a 40-yard worldy or Diego Costa took on 10 people and banged it in the back of the net from 30 yards you can take it but it's two deflections, it's a sucker punch really.'
