Matt Jarvis: I could have got a penalty for West Ham if I had dived against Arsenal
Matt Jarvis said on Tuesday he should have dived to win West Ham a penalty against Arsenal.
The Hammers winger might have been given a spot-kick after Bacary Sagna’s mistimed tackle in Tuesday’s game, but he decided not to go down.
Replays showed Sagna catching Jarvis, and West Ham manager Sam Allardyce was not happy with the midfielder’s honesty, insisting he should have gone to ground as his side lost 3-1.
Admission: West Ham's Matt Jarvis, second left, has said he should have dived to win a penalty against Arsenal
Short lived: Jarvis' (right) goal celebrations were cut short as Arsenal equalised four minutes later before eventually winning 3-1
Jarvis said: ‘Maybe I should be a bit cleverer and do what other players have.
‘Perhaps then I could have got the penalty. I thought about it too late and then, if I had gone down, it would have been a late dive.’
West Ham are chasing Marseille midfielder Alaixys Romao as Allardyce continues to prepare for next season.
The Togo midfielder has been a regular for Jose Anigo’s side in the French league this season and could be available for £2.5million.
Sportsmail understands a West Ham official travelled to Montpellier on Friday to watch the 30-year-old play in Marseille’s 3-2 win.
Midfield option: West Ham are chasing Marseille's Alaixys Romao, seen here battling for the ball with Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil, as they begin to make plans for next season
