Mata calls for calm

13.10: Juan Mata has called on supporters not to lose perspective following their defeat to Chelsea - and insists they can take positives from it.

United’s Premier League title hopes suffered a major dent as a header from Alvaro Morata in the second half consigned them to their second loss of the season.

And the result means United trail leaders Manchester City by eight points after just 11 games.

United are on the verge of qualification for the knockout stage of the Champions League after four wins from four games and they are also in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

And Mata insists people should remain calm and positive.

He wrote in his blog: “It’s not easy to write after a defeat. Obviously, there’s a risk that you get carried away by pessimism.

“But my experience tells me that you must allow some time to analyse things with more perspective. It hurts to lose, that’s for sure. Both you and us. But now there’s an international break coming and it’s a good time to recap and to see the things that we’re doing well and the things that we can improve.

“Indeed, the return to Stamford Bridge didn’t work out as we expected. It was a tough and intense game where Chelsea were able to take their chances to get the three points.

“In sports you have to accept the defeats, but with the only goal of learning from them and trying to improve in the next game. That’s what we’re going to do. There’s still a lot to play for, so let’s carry on.”

Griezmann to Man Utd?

10.50: Atletico Madrid players and fans want to cash in on Antoine Griezmann - after growing ‘tired of his games’.

Griezmann flirted with a move to Manchester United in the summer, at one point claiming there was a 6/10 chance he would make the move.

But the transfer collapsed after Griezmann chose to stay following the Atletico’s transfer ban being upheld.

He signed a new deal which means he has a relatively low buyout clause and has been linked with moves to Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

And Atletico players are beginning to turn on him for his poor performances this term.

The 26-year-old has scored just twice in La Liga and once in the Champions League this season.

Atletico are down in fourth and are on the verge of being knocked out of the Champions League.

Griezmann has gone missing in big games and was poor against Chelsea in the defeat despite scoring from the spot.

And Don Balon claim his team-mates are fed up with him and think the club should cash him in if Manchester United are willing to pay £90m.

Martial wants more chances

Anthony Martial insists he’s hungry to play and get back among the goals for Manchester United.

Martial came off the bench during the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea and has scored four times this season.

But he’s keen for more.

“At the moment, I’m happy, even if I could have done more, scored more goals and made more decisive passes. But I’m happy,” Martial said.

“I think the difference is that last year I didn’t have a good season but, for now, things are going pretty well. I’m achieving my objectives and I hope to score a lot more by the end of the season.

“I must continue to keep up good performances for my club and if I’ve got the chance to start over there [for France] I will do the best I can.”

“I think when I come on to the pitch as a sub, I’m hungry, desperate to play. I want to get some action, to score, to make some key passes, I want to give everything I can to help the team.”

Neville attacks strategy

09.45: Gary Neville has identified the area Manchester United lost the match to Chelsea.

United were beaten 1-0 thanks to an Alvaro Morata header and Neville thinks they lost the battle in the middle of the park.

"I thought they got killed in midfield," Neville told Sky Sports.

"Jose Mourinho, since the Liverpool game, has talked about not being able to freshen it up. I thought Herrera, Matic and Mkhitaryan got absolutely ambushed.

"Kante was doing his job brilliantly, Bakayoko was running off him, Hazard and Fabregas were dropping in and controlling the match.

“United were just well short in that area. If you dominate midfield in the big games, you're in business and Chelsea did.

"I think Pogba is a big miss because of his confidence and arrogance. He takes the ball into tight areas, holds the ball, beats a man.

"Michael Carrick, too - he delivers those passes up to strikers, to the side of defenders, and I think those two players would have made a big difference."

Lukaku slammed

09.30: Chris Sutton has slammed Romelu Lukaku after the defeat to Chelsea.

Lukaku has now gone seven games in all competitions without scoring despite a blistering start to life at Old Trafford.

And he was contained again at Stamford Bridge yesterday.

“At 6ft 3in, Romelu Lukaku is one of the most physically imposing forwards in the Premier League,” Sutton told the Daily Mail.

“Yet he was bullied all afternoon by Andreas Christensen — on only his fourth league start for Chelsea — and Cesar Azpilicueta who is almost half a foot shorter.

“The accusation levelled at Lukaku is that he does not turn up for the big games.

“I do not like calling players out for a lack of effort but on this evidence, it is hard to argue.”

Mourinho stays in London

09.00: Jose Mourinho stayed in London following his side’s 1-0 defeat to Chelsea.

Rather than head back to Manchester with the players, Mourinho stayed with his family in his west London home.

With the international break few United players actually went back to Manchester at all.

Marouane Fellaini, Daley Blind and Jesse Lingard were among those who did while most flew off to meet with their international camps.

And the manager chose to stay in London overnight.
