Gerrard on Oxlade-Chamberlain

19:03: Steven Gerrard has praised Jurgen Klopp for playing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlin out wide in the match with West Ham.

Gerrard explained why that tactic worked, saying: “It’s unusual for Klopp to use a 4-4-2 formation.

“We expected Oxlade-Chamberlain to start in the middle but he’s played him on the right.

“The reason he’s done that is because he’s asking his fullbacks to be more disciplined, so it’s more of a four with two in front.

“And that gives a license then for your four attar-minded players to use problems on the break for West Ham with the pace and direct running in behind.

“Liverpool certainly look more solid.”

Lawrenson’s prediction

13:20: Mark Lawrenson has backed Liverpool to beat West Ham 2-0 this evening.

“Liverpool have played a couple of games since they lost 4-1 at Tottenham and Klopp has been clever by playing nearly the same team. He did that to tell his players: prove I am notwrong and show you are decent players,” he said.

“We know they have defensive issues but it is very rare you make so many poor decisions in a game that costs you so many goals like they did at Wembley. Tottenham didn't really have to create the goals.

“Liverpool won comfortably at London Stadium at the end of last season and I think they will win again. But I hope it doesn't mean Bilic will lose his job - because that would be ridiculous.”

Liverpool squad revealed

11:14: Liverpool take on West Ham this evening (5.30pm) when Jurgen Klopp’s side make the trip down to the London Stadium.

Klopp will make late decisions on midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum (ankle) and defender Dejan Lovren (thigh) but playmaker Philippe Coutinho (adductor) is definitely out.

Sadio Mane has also been included in the squad following his time off with injury,

Liverpool squad: Mignolet, Gomez, Matip, Klavan, Moreno, Henderson, Milner, Can, Salah, Sturridge, Firmino, Karius, Alexander-Arnold, Robertson, Grujic, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Woodburn, Solanke, Mane.

Carragher on Salah

09:00: Jamie Carragher admits he underestimated Mohamed Salah when he first arrived at Liverpool.

“When I saw Salah score his first for the club at Watford on the opening day, I felt this was a player who would score 15 this season,” Carragher wrote in Telegraph.

“I underestimated. He is on schedule to get 25.

“The Egyptian is more than a traditional winger. He is a wide striker with the ability to get into goalscoring positions every time he plays.

"There has been plenty of criticism of Liverpool’s recruitment in recent years – much of it deserved.

“But just as with the signing of Sadio Mane in 2016, they have spent very well in bringing Salah back to England after his disappointing spell at Chelsea.

”As was the case with Mane, Salah already looks to be worth more than he cost.”
