Arsenal news: Arsene Wenger should copy Chelsea display against Man City - Smith

ARSENAL should use their performance against Chelsea as a blueprint for their game against Manchester City.

Craig Burley: Arsene Wenger should be SACKED

Arsenal dug deep to secure a point after holding Chelsea to a goalless draw away at Stamford Bridge in September.

Arsene Wenger’s men face a tough challenge as they seek to stop the most in-form side in Manchester City at the Etihad tomorrow (2.15pm).

The Gunners have struggled for consistency this season and their defence has been called into question.

But Smith reckons the north London outfit should use the performance at Stamford Bridge as a “template” against City if they hope to get at least a point from the match.

The performance at Stamford Bridge was the template of how to approach big games

Alan Smith

“It will be a fascinating clash on Sunday," Smith told Sky Sports' The Debate Show

"How Arsene [Wenger] approaches the match in terms of the team he selects and the attitude he adopts, I hope it is a similar one to the one at Stamford Bridge, when we were all pleasantly surprised with their shape and the way they coped without the ball.

“That day, [Alexis] Sanchez and [Mesut] Ozil weren't available, and [Alex] Iwobi and [Danny] Welbeck played either side of Lacazette and that played in Arsenal's favour.

Alan Smith thinks Arsenal should play against Man City like they did against Chelsea

"Iwobi and Welbeck are very disciplined, they funnelled up and down all day, and that is something that should have happened years ago.

“Will Sanchez and Ozil change the chemistry? Will it make Arsenal not as solid and resolute? We will probably see in the first 10 minutes on Sunday.
