LIVERPOOL are said to be keeping tabs on Mexican wonderkid Diego Lainez.

The attacking-midfielder had caught the eye of Reds scouts while playing in the under-17 World Cup in India.

The 17-year-old was one of the few bright sparks as Mexico bowed out in the quarter-finals with a 2-1 defeat to Iran.

And ESPN Deportes are reporting that Liverpool are keen to bring him over to Merseyside.

Lainez made his professional debut in March for Liga MX side Club America.

He has since gone on to make 12 appearances for the first team in Mexico’s top flight.

But his stock has soared after scoring two goals in the World Cup.

Lainez lined up against England in the group stages and baged a brace as the Three Lions romped to a 3-2 win.

England progressed as group champions, with Mexico proving their sternest test.

Steve Cooper’s side  then beat japan, USA and Brazil to book their place in today’s final (3.30pm).
