Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho has trust issues, his decisions are confusing - Nicholas

Those are the thoughts of Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas.

United go into their clash against Tottenham at Old Trafford today (12.30pm) five points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City in second spot.

Mourinho has shuffled his defence around a lot, and switched between Ashley Young and Daley Blind at left-back.

Victor Lindelof came on as a substitute for the injured Phil Jones last week in the 2-1 defeat away to Huddersfield.

Lindelof made a costly mistake in that match, as United slipped up for the first time this term.

And Nicholas thinks Mourinho is only confusing things by picking a different back four each time.

“I don’t think he trusts his defenders,” Nicholas told Sky Sports’ The Debate Show.

“How many times have we had this discussion?

“Ever since Mourinho got there, he doesn’t trust Smalling.

“I don’t think he’s convinced Jones is his man as he’s not sure whether he’s physically adaptable.

“He probably think he’s a bit too rash.

“As we know, Lindelof has had an almighty struggle.

“Bailly has been the one - he’s a bit raw.

“And then he brings in Young all of a sudden and you start to get confused.

“That’s what Mourinho does and you are left scratching your head.”
