Kevin De Bruyne has been in sensational form for Manchester City this term

The Belgian midfielder has been one of the standout performers for Pep Guardiola’s side this term, helping the club to first spot in the Premier League table.

De Bruyne bagged two assists in City’s 7-2 thrashing of Stoke at the weekend and was on fire once more in the Champions League this evening against Napoli.

De Bruyne set up Gabriel Jesus for the Blues second goal against the Serie A side.

Pundit Owen Hargreaves was watching on and was highly complimentary of the 26-year-old - even comparing him to the likes of Manchester United legends Paul Scholes and David Beckham.

"He's the best," said Hargreaves on BT Sport. "He's the best passer of the ball for goals I've seen in a long time.

"Paul Scholes was the best short range passer, for me, David Beckham was the best long range passer.

"His passing for goals, almost like one bounce and into people... I don't think I've ever seen someone do that before."

Robbie Savage added: "Best midfielder at this minute for me."

His stunning displays this season has seen the likes of Barcelona come knocking.

But his agent, Patrick De Koster, says he will be sitting down with City to discuss a new contract soon.

“We are discussing with City and in the coming months I'll meet the club to see how to improve and extend his contract,” De Koster said.

“De Bruyne has many options because we are discussing the contract with City.

“But if you see how much Mbappé and Neymar cost you will understand how much he may cost.”
