Man Utd news: Marouane Fellaini likely to sign two-year deal, club confident of agreement

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly confident of reaching an agreement with Marouane Fellaini over a contract extension.

Fellaini misses simple opportunity against Real Madrid

Fellaini, 29, has emerged as one of Jose Mourinho’s most valued assets in the heart of his Manchester United midfield this season.

He has already scored four goals this term and has filled in for the absent Paul Pogba, who is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury.

But with just less than ten months remaining on his current contract, doubt has been cast over his future at Old Trafford.

Talks over a contract extension at United have been ongoing for several weeks, but a conclusion is yet to be reached.

However, The Daily Mirror say the club are confident of coming to an agreement over fresh terms.

Fellaini turns 30 later this month and United have a policy of only offering one-year deals to players who have reached this age.

But they look set to scrap this and reward Fellaini with a two-year contract, with an option for a third.

The Belgium international is free to talk to other clubs in January about signing a pre-contract agreement.

But is hopeful that a deal for Fellaini to extend his stay will be struck before then.

The Portuguese boss holds the former Everton midfielder in high regard and admitted that he “feels weaker” without him in his team.

"He's an important player for me - a lot more important than you can imagine,” Mourinho said following United’s 2-2 draw with Stoke last month.

"I feel weaker without Fellaini in my squad, doesn't matter if it's on the pitch or on the bench.”
