Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho has resolved a major player issue from last season - Robson

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Jose Mourinho has resolved a major issue from last season by bringing pace into his side.

That is the view of ESPN FC pundit and ex-Arsenal midfielder Stewart Robson.

Robson reckons having veteran Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and on a lesser scale Wayne Rooney, in the team contributed to them finishing sixth last term.

Red Devils boss Mourinho bought Romelu Lukaku in the summer and has started Marcus Rashford in all but one of their Premier League games to date this season.

And Robson says that pace has made United into the side he thought Mourinho would build in his time at Old Trafford.

“What they are doing now is playing with more pace,” he said.

“They’re passing the ball forward, they’ve got runners beyond the ball, which they didn’t have last year.

“That was the major problem when they had Ibrahimovic up front and Rooney for the first part of it playing behind and he didn’t use Rashford enough.

“Now they’re passing the ball forward, they’ve got forward runners.

"They’ve got (Marouane) Fellaini making runs into the box when he’s playing in midfield, (Paul) Pogba when he was fit was playing much better. They have made great strides.

“And I think the two full-backs have done quite well, whoever they’ve played at left-back has had decent games and the right-back (Antonio) Valencia has got forward and got good crosses into the box.

“This is the Manchester United I thought Mourinho would make them and they’re a really top-class side.”

Jose Mourinho has been nominated for the Premier League manager of the month for September, alongside Pep Guardiola, Arsene Wenger and Mauricio Pochettino.
