Liverpool news: Steven Gerrard expects Man Utd game to be turning point

STEVEN GERRARD believes Liverpool can turn their season around when they return to action against Manchester United after the international break.

Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against Newcastle left them with just one win in their last seven outings.

Their 4-0 win over Arsenal seems a distant memory at the moment with Jurgen Klopp coming under criticism for their defensive woes.

United on the other hand have been in imperious form this campaign, scoring 21 goals in their opening seven league games.

Despite Liverpool’s 5-0 defeat to Manchester City, they have performed well against the top six under Klopp.

In the two years since the German coach arrived at Anfield, Liverpool have taken 36 points from 20 games, losing just twice.

And Gerrard is excited to see what his former club can pull off against Jose Mourinho’s side after the international break.

"I cannot wait for those two games because watching Liverpool since Jurgen has come in - they are the games where Liverpool seem to prove everyone wrong and put in top-class performances," Gerrard told Sky Sports News.

"I think their record against the top sides is the best so if I was a Liverpool player or the Liverpool manager those games can't come quick enough.

"The frustrating thing for Liverpool at the moment is the international break after a couple of games where they feel they should have done better.

"I think Liverpool will be itching once the international break is over and really relishing those games.

"As a fan, I am looking forward to watching them in those games because I think they can bounce back.

"With one good result or a couple of good results they will find themselves back in the top four."
