JURGEN KLOPP won’t be in a rush to hand Daniel Sturridge another starting place in the Liverpool line-up, according to Graeme Souness.

Daniel Sturridge wasted a number of opportunities in the draw against Newcastle

Roberto Firmino was dropped in favour of the England international for today’s 1-1 draw against Newcastle.

But Sturridge failed to deliver on just his third start of the season, wasting a number of clear-cut opportunities.

In truth, Liverpool’s entire attacking unit was again wasteful in front of goal with Philippe Coutinho’s strike the only bright spot for Klopp’s side.

The 28-year-old has struggled with injury woes in recent years but looks as though he has put them behind him this campaign.

It might be another month, six weeks before Klopp plays him again

But his performance against Newcastle left a lot to be desired for Sky Sports pundit Souness.

And the Liverpool legend doesn’t expect to see Sturridge return to the starting line-up this month.

"He was laboured, a yard of the pace, I don’t think he can train properly, and that’s why he gets injury after injury,” Souness told Sky Sports.

Graeme Souness doesn't expect to see Daniel Sturridge in Liverpool's starting XI anytime soon

"I was watching him last year, and his warm up was like 30 per cent. Then he is expected to sprint when the game starts.

"It might be another month, six weeks before Klopp plays him again.

"Klopp sacrificed the workrate of Firmino for a bit of magic from Sturridge, but he didn’t have it, he laboured today."
