Chelsea vs Man City: Alvaro Morata's injury is a huge blow, says Frank Lampard

Morata was substituted with a hamstring injury in the first-half of Chelsea’s clash with Manchester City this evening.

The Spaniard had been in fine form in front of goal, starring in the win against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, but now looks set for a spell on the sidelines.

Lampard reckons Morata was the best player for Chelsea until he got substituted and says going forward his absence will be a blow.

“Morata was the bright spark. On the couple of occasions Chelsea looked dangerous was with Morata involved,” Lampard said on BT Sport.

But the problem Chelsea have now is now they’re losing him, they don’t have that target to hold the ball

Frank Lampard on Chelsea star Alvaro Morata

“He’s bright here, early in the game, (Cesc) Fabregas finds him, doesn’t quite get his feet right to get away from the defender.

“He’s a target man for Chelsea, he’s always moving and always wants to be in the right position. He’s always moving to the middle of goal.

“Another side of his game is his hold-up play, we saw it in midweek.

“Very classy, everything sticks, he brings other people into play.

“But the problem Chelsea have now is now they’re losing him, they don’t have that target to hold the ball.

“They don’t have that presence in and around the box.

“Willian and (Eden) Hazard’s natural area is to try and come short, get the ball and create.

"Now you’re going to need them to get behind.”

Chelsea lost the game to Manchester City 1-0, with a goal from former Blues midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.
