Guardiola to speak

09:03: Pep Guardiola will hold his weekly pre-match press conference at 1.30pm today.

The Manchester City manager will be asked about Sergio Aguero’s car crash.

The big question is why Aguero was allowed time off to go to Holland just two days before a crunch Premier League game with Chelsea.

Manchester City statement

08:40: Manchester City have released a statement on Sergio Aguero’s car crash in Holland.

In a brief statement, the club said: “Sergio Aguero will be assessed by Club doctors today after being involved in a road accident on Thursday.

“The City forward was in Holland on his day off and has sustained injuries.

“He will return to Manchester this morning and his status will be checked ahead of tomorrow's Premier League clash at Chelsea.”

Argentina's Aguero blow

08:13: Manchester City look set to be without Sergio Aguero for two months - and his suspected injury will also be a blow to Argentina.

Aguero’s injury means he will likely miss next week’s World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Ecuador.

Argentina currently sit fifth in the South American qualification table for the 2018 World Cup.

Only the top four nations advance automatically, with the fifth-placed side facing a playoff round against New Zealand.

Argentina have endured a disappointing qualification campaign and defeat to Peru in their opening match over this international break would be disastrous.

Argentina have Chile chasing them for fifth spot, while Paraguay and Ecuador can both mathematically trump the country.

Aguero is yet to score for Argentina in the qualification campaign.

Sergio Aguero to miss Chelsea

07:58: Sergio Aguero is facing two months out with a rib injury suffered in the car crash in Holland overnight.

He is almost certain to be out of City’s match with Chelsea on Saturday (5.30pm).

If reports in Argentina are correct, the Manchester City player will miss Premier League games against Stoke, Burnley, West Brom, Arsenal, Leicester, Huddersfield and Southampton.

In Europe City have clashes home and away against Napoli as well as a match with Feyenoord.

And Aguero will also miss the home Carabao Cup match against Wolves.

Independiente statement

07:30: Sergio Aguero’s former club Independiente have issued a statement of support for the player.

The Argentine club tweeted: “Strength and speedy recovery @aguerosergiokun ! Everyone at Independiente is with you at this difficult time.”
