Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp is doing the same as Kenny Dalglish and Bob Paisley - Whelan

JURGEN KLOPP has brought back what both club legends Kenny Dalglish and Bob Paisley did at Liverpool, according to Ronnie Whelan.

Klopp vents fury at Liverpool players during Spartak draw

Klopp has faced possibly his toughest test to date in the dugout at Liverpool in recent weeks.

The Reds have won just one of their last six matches in all competitions, conceding 13 goals in the process.

Last week’s defeat against Leicester in the Carabao Cup means one less trophy Liverpool can challenge for this season with pressure mounting on Klopp to deliver some silverware this campaign.

But former Anfield star Whelan, who won six league titles with Liverpool, has jumped to the defence of Klopp and believes the German coach has really integrated into the culture of the club.

I think Klopp has gone back to that way of thinking. It’s not me

“Houllier and Benitez didn’t want ex-players anywhere near. Houllier thought we were putting the team under pressure,” Whelan told the Irish Examiner

“You look up at the press box, Houllier said, there’s 10 ex-players doing different radio stations or TV. But Klopp has come back the other way. He’s more about the history.

“I think he wants to do it for the football club. It’s not for Klopp. Liverpool went through a period of managers, even going back to Souey (Graeme Souness), where it seemed to be all about me.
