Chelsea news: Manchester United are not the better team - Pat Nevin

CHELSEA are not behind Manchester United in quality, despite their three-point advantage in the Premier League, according to Pat Nevin.

Chelsea can cut it with the best at the top of the Premier League, says Pat Nevin

Chelsea started the season poorly with a shock 3-2 defeat to Burnley on the opening day but have turned things around.

Antonio Conte’s side have since gone undefeated, picking up impressive wins away at Tottenham and most recently Stoke.

And Pat Nevin believes the Blues have all the hallmarks of a title-winning side and should not consider themselves inferior to Manchester United or City.

“I have been fortunate to see all three of the top teams in the Premier League in the flesh in the last week or so,” Nevin wrote in his Chelsea column.

“At Watford, Manchester City were sparkling with Sergio Aguero a pure joy to watch.

“And I was down on the south coast this weekend where Man United beat Southampton.

“In short, Chelsea are not really behind United at all other than the three points in the league.”

And Nevin thinks Chelsea have no reason to be intimidated by free-scoring table-toppers City this weekend either.

“And as for City, brilliant as they have been, the game next Saturday could well be the game of the season so far with no obvious favourite to win,” he added.

“The figures for September are very impressive for both sides. City have a combined score of 22-1 in their five fixtures while the Blues are a mere 17-2 ahead in our five games.

“In some ways, it all seems like preparation for the four days to come.”

Chelsea take on City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday (5.30pm).
