Chelsea news: David Luiz broke wrist against Arsenal, faces lengthy spell on sidelines

CHELSEA defender David Luiz reportedly broke his wrist against Arsenal on Saturday.

Luiz is already due to miss Chelsea’s next three games after he was shown a straight red card during the Blues’ goalless draw with Arsenal.

But the Brazilian is facing an extended spell on the sidelines after fracturing his wrist, according to The Sun.

The 30-year-old centre-half clattered into the advertising hoardings early on at Stamford Bridge but carried on playing.

The Sun add that Luiz will not require surgery on his wrist and is still training in a splint.

Blues manager Antonio Conte admitted he will turn to young defender Andreas Christensen during Luiz’s three-match ban.

And following the news of Luiz’s injury, the Denmark international looks set for even more first-team game time.

Conte said after the Arsenal game: “Christensen is a very young player but I think he is a good player and I trust him.

“Now he has the possibility to play and now he has to prepare very well to play.”

Luiz was dismissed against Arsenal late on for a wild tackle on Sead Kolasinac - but Conte believes referee Michael Oliver missed a foul on Luiz just moments before.

When asked about the situation, Conte said: ”David Luiz, you know very well that I don't like to comment about the referee.

“I don't do it in the past, or the present. You need to see what happened before the tackle.

"We have great respect for officials, but it is strange to finish a third game in a row against Arsenal with 10 men."
